The R1S is 20 inches shorter than my Expedition. I have an EL in 4x4. I took out a security camera with my roof rail the last parking garage I drive through in DC lol

My biggest mistake is not knowing what current EV's that are in production. It looks like the options she's looking for is still a year or two out from now. I was under the impression vehicles like an EV Highlander, Explorers, Grand Cherokee were in the market. I admittedly do not follow EV news or auto news.

Look at the Audi e-tron (now called the Q8 e-tron for 2024).

I second the recommendations that you check out a Kia EV6.

I spent December with one & was deeply impressed by it in just about every metric except the user interface (touchscreens and frustrating nav/infotainment setup) but I suppose that is something that you'll find in most new cars. But yeah: spacious, great ride, quick and quiet.

I forgot about the e-Tron, despite it being the EV my sister wants.

I know the Model Y can tow, but range drops sharply from doing so.

As it does with every vehicle. We have all forgotten that :)

Towing range isn't a concern given the stop n go traffic here. That's a thing with every vehicle.

We're scheduled to do 30 mins with a R1S. I have a feeling she's going to love it and go with that. She also likes the Blazer but those aren't available yet.

I have a friend with an R1S reservation he may not be using. Let me know if you want to chat with him. Might get you further towards the front of the line.

The X quality doesn't seem to be in par with the rest of their vehicles. We'll look into the Y though.

We just added a refresh X for my wife. We ordered and waited a year and I was prepared to walk away if the quality wasn't better than the previous gen. We have been delighted with the vehicle. We did have an issue with one Falcon Wing door that was seeing phantom obstructions, but a mobile service appointment has resolved it thus far. Paint and panel gaps/alignment are good. The new permanent magnet motors make big power and the efficiency has been better than I expected.  Interesting that the battery size is similar in size to the pack in my 2019 S, but is rated for 348 miles in a larger and heavier vehicle than the previous S. The weight is down because Tesla decreased the battery size a little from the previous gen.

The R1S was on our list, and I do really like the looks of it. We made the choice last October for the X vs the R1S due to the charging network. We have seen Rivian and other vehicle owners struggle with the EA network chargers and have spoken to them while charging, and their stories have given me some concern. The owners do seem to really like the vehicle though, so please keep us updated if you get one.

I appreciate the user experience info on the refreshed X.

There's an R1S in the neighborhood. Hoping to catch them one day to get how they've been getting along with them.

Ultimately the choice is hers and I'm glad she's finally getting something she really wants for herself for once.
