I've come across a car I don't need, but appears so clean I might have to jump on it. It's a 88 Supra turbo. That gets me a 7MGTE, with the R154 gearbox. Leather, targa roof. 80k miles.
In the add the car is damn clean. Looks completely unmolested. Storied to have sat for 15 years straight. Worst flaw I've found is the center arm rest is cracked and split. I've got the seller at 6k. I have not seen the car in person yet. Hows that price sit with you bargain hunters?
I know the head gasket issue, and that's easy enough to fix. Also the cars are heavy. Like 3700 and change... however, It appears the standard intake exhaust/intercooler and a boost controller goes a long way towards making these scoot. What else should I know? Internets tells me the 7m is good for 450 500hp stock internals....that true?
Get 550cc top feed injectors, LS400 AFM and a CT26 with a bigger compressor, 3” or bigger dpipe and full exhaust and that thing will scoot.
My brother has one with those mods and running ~1.4 bar and it moves.
My brother has had his for about 15 years. Nothing crazy done to it. He did blow the HG and blocked off the EGR plus got a TTE metal headgasket/ARP studs and since then its been good.
There used to be a guy in Colorado named Dave Hall, great guy and he knew these cars inside out. He had some high HP ones. He helped my brother with his mods.
I will ask my brother for more details on what he has done to his, but I know its not major. Probably pushing high 300’s/close to 400.
BTW and ‘88 unmolested with those miles and at that price I would buy today. But I am one of the weird ones that likes the early ones over the later ones with the big tails/new front bumper.
you are now able to get auto 1jz cars that have been imported for similar money to really clean USDM cars.

I had a white 5 speed mkIII with red interior and white wheels. It was an awesome car!
6000 is a great price with those miles.
They're not good for much performance-wise due to their high weight (much of which is in the chassis!) and crappy suspension geometry (including low lock angle). They're good for high-speed straight-line cruising and as landspeed racers. Stock internals really will hold up to 450~500hp.
They are super sweet in a Stancebro/Dorifto sort of look. For 6k, if its super clean, rust free, and kept indoors that sounds like a deal. I would caution you that if it is missing any small items or trim stuff it will be hard to find and expensive.

Thanks for the info guys. I was looking forward to checking this car out, but the seller just stopped responding. Not sure what to make of that, but unless he reaches out, the deals dead.
Here's the car in question

I did notice a zip tie on the bottom right side of the bumper....other than that.....
Interesting that he put a clutch in it then reduced the price from 10k to 7.2k.

Been listed forever. I've been watching it slowly dwindle in price for months.
Barn is different than "attached suburban garage" from a storage standpoint. Go over it with fine toothed comb looking for rodent damage, and double double check all the electrical works.
