I had a spin-on truck filter remote mounted on my MGB. For the same price as a regular car sized filter, you can get a truck size one that maybe holds an extra quart of oil.
Don't forget a thermostat before the cooler. Carb'd engines don't run cold very well.
I suggest a spin-on standard filter. Use the one that fits a Toyota 22R motor, or a 1uzfe (slightly longer version, same specs.) The 22R version fits about half the cars ever made.
Use a spin on. In either 3/4 or 22mm size you end up with a wide variety of filter sizes and lengths to choose from.

And the engine on my Generac stand-by whole-house generator.
I buy them by the case at the Toyota dealer for around five bucks each. Use them on the RN Truck (Duh), 3 Harleys, have used them on the Elise, the Esprit (RIP), and I dunno what else. You can ask for a filter for a 1979 Dodge Omni and that's it also.
