I've got a cigarette lighter plug in the back of the 4Runner, and also an actual 115V outlet that provides 100 watts of power.
A portable compressor would be awesome, because obviously it allows easier tire pressure changes at the track, but it will also allow easy filling of the air bags I'll put in the back of the truck for towing.
Any suggestions?
If it will run it, the little $40 HF pancake compressors are real handy. Otherwise, the $15 12V compressors work. I use one to air up my air mattress when camping with the bike. Hook it up, turn it on, go set up the tent and by the time the tent is done, the mattress is ready to go in.
Yeah, just realized the 115V is likely worthless for anything other than charging the cell phones. 115V 100W = ~1amp, right?
Yeah, that's about an amp at 110V. You would probably be better off getting a 400W inverter from HF and plugging the pancake compressor into that. Looks like they need about 3 amps or 300W.

That would be about 30 amps on the 12v side, so make sure the circuit back there can handle that. Or get something like

and put the clip leads directly on the battery when you need it and plug the pancake compressor into that.
I have a little 12v compressor I keep in the trunk, it's a Slime: http://www.slime.com/shop/comp03/ I bought it at Auto Zone. It will fill a tire but it takes a long time - the website says 8 minutes but I think that's optimistic.

This one is da bomb. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BM8RT8/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It fills tires in a flash, compared to other portables.
