My recently picked up 1974 Volvo 164 comes with triple Solex carbs. PO had it for awhile and put the Solex carbs on it. It's close to running (runs and then dies) but he thinks it needs smaller jets and less fuel entering carbs. It will stay running if you keep your foot on the gas pedal a little bit but the second you take your foot off the gas to change gear with the clutch it dies.

Sounds like a clogged idle jet to me, but I have NO idea how those carbs work.

I believe those are marine carbs and rumor has it they stink in automotive applications

That may be in the "Volvo" forum but seeing this board's awesome responses to people's car problem. I am hoping for an outside the box idea or solution or quite possibly a Solex Carb Expert here which I know gas to exist.
