Tell me... I know they can be swapped easily to a stick... major engine flukes? Or other problems?
Can't be that hard, one of our rallycrossers has an SVX engine swapped into his impreza with a 5-speed attached to it. But I can't speak from personal knowledge.
It's a 20 year old car so take that for what it's worth.
Some of the trim can be hard to find. The engine is solid but the auto sucks. It's heavy and the wheel bearings/hubs and brakes are a bit undersized.
All together it's a solid car and subaru way undercharged for them.
Don't know where you are, but as of a month or two ago there was a complete, untouched SVX sitting in a pick-n-pull yard in Virginia. No accident damage, all glass, all interior, engine bay looked like it had never been opened. Apparently nobody wanted anything from it. Looked like it could drive right off the lot except for the one missing wheel.
Paging SVreX
The engine is pretty reliable (essentially an EJ22 with 2 more pistons; same bore/stroke). The auto trans is actually far more reliable than people give it credit for, they're just particular about maintenance (as are most things Subaru). It's in the top 3 on my bucket list, but finding one for sale at a time when the fleet/bank account would allow for it has never happened.
i know where there are 2 of them that have been sitting in the same place for a few years now- right along a busy US highway.. one has a for sale sign in it that says $4500, but i don't know if that's for just one or both.
They weigh almost 3,600 pounds, and a guy I knew that had one says they are very understeer happy. They ARE unique looking cars though.
5 x 114.3 wheel bolt pattern so newer STi wheels will fit and look smashing!
There's one local that (according to the previous owner) has the transmission from a newer Legacy and 4.44 gears in the front and rear diffs. The 4.44 gear swap ( came with 3.45 from the factory, I believe )seems fairly common and seems to help quite a bit with such a heavy car.
230 or so silky smooth horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 230 lb/ft at 4,400 rpm.
I LOVE the sounds an EG33 makes at high revs!
