So this just popped up on my local craigslist. It'll be tight but I can probably make it happen this weekend. It would be a pleasure driver and rallycrosser.
learn me what to look out for and what to check if/when I go and check this one out.

16v head swaps, OE bolt on turbo bits or cheap explorer V8 swaps. Mountains of suspension travel. Dana 30 in the rear making for lots of gear ratio options, differentials, spools or lockers.
The manual trans is the weak point but shouldn't be too stressed by a stock example like this. Came in both 4 speed + OD or 5 speed. They are known to rust lots of places, check under the rear. The blower motor is a pretty big job.
Suspension is straightforward and easy to improve upon. Expect oil leaks from rear main seal. Piston slap is extremely common but rarely serious.
That one should have the m47 5 speed trans, it's supposedly slightly weaker than the m46 but they are both equally weak. I still havent blown up my m47 thats behind a slightly tuned up b21ft (think 200ish hp, they get questionable shortly after that). Turbo swap stuff is easy and that one SHOULD be an lh2.4 (ecus) which is the "best" they offered and easiest to swap in turbo computers, plug and play. That one has the slightly stronger of the weak rods (13mm). As for rust look under the battery tray, and for some reason under the passenger rear seat. Listen for rattly fuel pump as that means it could be going south or bad in tank (main pump is under the car, there a lifter in tank that goes bad often). I say go for it, they are SUPER easy and cheap to work on. Im on my third volvo redblock now, two factory turbos one i added one too.

You should already be on your way to get that!

Payday is friday... so nothing will happen before then
Also I.. um... rather embarrassed to say this, but I haven't driven a stick in like 15 years... I'm not sure I'd be able to get it home without killing the clutch.

You'll be fine. It will all come back to you in a minute or two.
A Volvo redblock is probably the easiest clutch/stick combo I've ever driven.
T5 swaps are common among 240ers. I have dreams about building a 240 wagon with a b230ft, t5, stripped and fully caged.

Most of the ones in the PNW always pop up at $2-3K, so go as soon as you can on Friday. If you have driven a stick before it comes back quick. The redblock has lots of low end so not hard to drive.
There are lot of Volvo fans in this area, I think if you want that you need to be headed up that way soon. You could give the person a deposit if you have to wait until tomorrow to get paid.

No worries, my manual car has the same heavy flywheel and trans, i can start off without ever touching the gas and not even slipping the clutch bad like youd expect. Just ease out and off she goes. That lh2.4 flywheel is super heavy
Didn't get there fast enough. Oh well.
