This. I've spent more than that on a single drill bit that I needed for a project.

I'd try that wonder grip socket thing first, then probably blow the ten bucks on the right tool, but in day's gone by, the Vice Grips would be on that sucker and then I'd replace it with a regular nut. You might also be able to get that thing off with a punch and a small hammer.

I picked up a set of gear wrenches like that from a box hw store that were on sale when I needed a gear wrench in a pinch. they're one of my favorite tools, now.
