We got our LeGrand on Sunday night. It was like Christmas and my first boob-touching experience rolled into one:

Yea, we're pretty excited. Can't beat the bang for the buck. We've got 7500 in the car, 1500 of which was just getting it to Florida.
Your stats list some pretty impressive hp and torque for a 900cc bike motor. Can you give me any more specifics on the motor make/model/buildup stuff?
It's a KZ900 built by APE with high compression JE pistons, headwork, Mikuni RS 36 flatslides, etc. Hp was what was on the build sheet in the receipts (6500 in engine work alone...proving that it can be better to buy than build. Torque was relayed via previous owner.
edit: It's a KZ1000 (Z1) that has a Z2 piston assembly to make it about 900cc, according to the paperwork with the car.
That car is cool enough in it's own right, but being a past family relic elevates it to ubercool status. I can't wait to read about this one!

Gotta agree with aeronca yet again.
Really great find! $6k ain't bad, either.
It looks like it's in great shape. Sent you some wheel dimension info via email. Beware, once you start driving it, everything else will feel like a boat! Enjoy!
Cool car Per! What are your plans? Is there an Auto-X class for it, track days or are you going to screw headlights on it and terrorize Ormond Beach's off ramps?
Dan
B Modified is the autocross class it falls into--the second fastest class out there. It might hit an occasional track day or a vintage race as well. It's no longer that competitive in D Sports Racing for SCCA Club Racing (although still legal and current)
That is berkeleyin' cool. My old man's original racecar (an Elva Courier Mk IV) won the Runoffs a few years ago... but to be able to buy and flog the piss out of it would be something a few levels cooler.
Have fun in that puppy!
We will. I'm hoping to have it out at an event soon. It's a little frustrating not being able to drive it to see how everything works at more than a walking pace. Maybe I should tow it up to our top-secret Berkeley testing area (Tim's cul de sac)
Speaking of the Berkeley, I think we're just going to do away with reverse and simplify that front box and that'll also make it a bit stronger. Less likely to pop between gears too.
