I've always had a weird love for the 2 door hatch Tercels and found one that's fairly cheap.

What can you do to them? Do they take any particular engine swaps easily? I see they have a 1.5 3A?

I know, it's a boring, slow toyota. I still think they look like a hoot.

In reply to RossD :

What if you got a reverse rotational engine connected to that whimpy transaxle and mount the whole thing backwards in a hot hatch, making some kinda rally homologous car that requires the strangest shift pattern ever!

whoa!

I'm chuckling to the responses in that thread - I never took Trecel owners as purists. Ha!

I didn't know they had such a cool transaxle!

This one is well worn, but probably can get it down to low xxx.xx digits - maybe a challenge car?

I bought my first wife one of those.

When we split up, she moved back to her home state with the car and never bothered to make a loan or insurance payment.

I was awarded the car in divorce court since I had been making the payments for her and my wife managed to total the car a few months later.

She tried to collect the insurance payout and would have gotten away with it due to the inner-state lag time except for an ironic twist of fate…I had started dating a girl that just so happened to work in the fraud investigation unit of the same insurance company and she had flagged the account to be notified of any activity.

The car was navy blue with a black vinyl interior, no A/C, and she took it to Louisiana.

There aren’t a lot of those left on the road but when I do see one, I think about how much “carma” can kick your a$$.

My wife had one before we got married.  Good little car.  There is lots of lift at 75 miles per hour, which is about Vmax.

The first time shifting would be a mind bender. 1st is where R would be. R is where 1st was. Up shift to downshift. Downshift to upshift.
