So right now my primary source of trepidation with Uncle Ben is not the daunting task of splicing two very different vehicles together, or even reinstalling the some odd 150 feet of loom, but the very real concern about the factory Lexus Theft Deterrent System (TDS) disabling the system when I put it all together.

Can anyone tell me if simply removing the TDS ECU and the associated wiring will prevent this, or worse, cause this? I've poured over the Lexus Wiring Manual and nothing seems to indicate such either way, but seeing as most of this system is not applicable to Uncle Ben's hardware I'm a little concerned simply removing the ECU is going to be insufficent.

I'd really like to start working on the wiring harness since I can work on that at home at any time, but I is scared.

FWIW, the only tie-in I can find between the TDS-ECU and the engine ECU seems to be thru the starter relay. As near as I can tell the starter relay has to ground through TDS-ECU and seems to be the only means of disabling the starting system.

At this point, absent any other advice I'm just going to tie the starter relay into ground and hope for the best.

What's the vehicle?

I deleted the ones on my spyders with no drama. They were both dealer installed and came out without a hitch.

It's a 98 SC300.

I have a friend. I can get you any Lexus manual ever.

FYI: on my '93 ls400 the transponder can be cut out of the circuit. On the newer motors I don't know off hand how that's done. Some ecu's need the transponder key, if you run into that, you can purchase a used Ecu with transponder from eBay. All 1uzfe ecu's (from the same phase 1uzfe) are the same, the only difference is the plugs so a 40,40,40 pin Ecu will work on a 26,32,40, etc. the main wires from the harness just have to go to the corresponding pins in the molex connector.

Edit: total fail, I thought I read sc400, not the 2jz...

Can you just tape the transponder inside the reciever ring and bypass it that way?

Does he have the transponder?

I do still have all the factory parts for the rolling shall minus the keys.

I spent another couple hours tracing over all the wiring diagrams and it seems like there are actually 2 relays that are grounded through the TDS, but otherwise I don't see any means of direct communication between the TDS and engine control ECU. So I'm just going to ground those through a common toggle somewhere hidden as an added security feature.

Can't help you on your issue, Crackers. I did eliminate the alarm system on a Y2K RAV4, but that is dealer installed.

Trackmouse,
What I need is to disable the berkeleying auto-windows-and-sunroof-opening "feature" that comes on when the unlock button is held down too long, like from another key in your pocket, on 98 and 99 LS400's.
