It may be an iconic Ferrari, but it's a mid-80s one, so its still pretty analog. My guess is this is one of those cars that works better when driven as intended. Driven hard, but maintained. So, other than the one Chris Harris got to flog with the F50, and the one on the TaxTheRich100 YouTube channel, that leaves basically none of them.

matching it up with the pic of the real one, really all that needs to be done is some lower springs and wheels with the correct offset and a lot of normal people would be fooled.

Coming from the other side of the pages, this one was fun to put together. Sure, I have personally wanted an F40 since its debut. Doesn't matter that it's out of my grasp. It's always been the one. Whenever I see one at an event, I'll linger.
But what's the reality of ownership? Is it a complicated mess? Surprisingly easy to live with? So we put together this piece for the upcoming issue of Classic Motorsports. Hope that a few of you check it out.

how about an article on some of the more attainable Ferraris? I would love to know what it is to live with a 308 or any of it's slightly larger engined siblings

Ah, the F40. About the most beautiful car ever penned (and it probably was "penned" instead of "moused" in those years). It's one of the few supercars light enough to really be fun, or at least one of the most beautiful IMHO.
I saw one of these once at the local furniture mart (?!). We have a crazy furniture entrepreneur (Mattress Mac in Houston) who loved racing cars and had one in his showroom, and was crazy enough not to rope it off, and let mere mortals touch, and even sit inside! I can only imagine how cool it is to hear the Ferrari wail, and to feel how nimble that thing is. I guess in terms of supercars it no longer has much of a performance edge, but it's always been one of my very top favorites. My neighbor did have a Lola T70 he restored, which was also VERY cool, and I also love the Ford GT40s, but the F40 is pure magic. If only I had the money to buy one when it was "only" $220K (ha!).
Don’t they make an LS swap for a fiero? That could make the performance convincing too. At least in a straight line.

That would be a more defensible position if the F40 hadn't come right after the 288 GTO. The F40 is dramatic and purposeful and built like a big kit car, but beautiful is a stretch.

I enjoyed that article. I wish you could still get a driver Testarossa for 45k. I almost bought one for 40k a few years ago and it had high miles, a blown diff, and other TLC. I saw it on the internet before leaving work, decided to think on it on the way home, enabled myself like a champ on the commute and decided to pull the trigger. By the time I got home someone had hit buy it now. I still regret that one to an extent, but the car definitely would have been a money pit.
You need to log in to see the high bid, but this one went up to $750,000 at Mecum's Kissimmee sale earlier this year. Yes, I spent a few minutes in front of it. (Personally, yeah, I'd hold out for a stock one.)
