I just finished my first run in the car--1.5 seconds faster than Andy, meaning I've won our little contest and will drive the third run. Woohoo!

Wet skid pad complete...

.751g...3rd in class 20th overall when we left...cars behind might get in front.

I regret to inform you that you got beat by a Kia Rio, and have slipped back to 32nd overall in the end on the wet skidpad.

On our way to Nelson Ledges...short 4.5 hour jaunt.

Tom went slower on third run but still managed to stay ahead of two national champs (me and Randy Pobst) to finish 3rd in class around the cones.

Early arrival means a sit-down dinner.

Hell yeah!  The Rio took 16th out of 86 for the overall and 1st in the Sundae Class for skidpad.

Then, took 47th out of 86 in the autox. which is also first in Sundae.  These are great showing for a car that should be considered "wheezy" compared to the competition.

Based on live timing, Bob kept a 1/2sec over Scott/Becky in Mooncake... and are they thus leading the class into day 2...

In the Rio, do you know who was at the helm for the skidpad?  I presume Bob was the driver of the autox given that it is his "home field."  Was Seth, multi-time-one-lapper, driving the skidpad?

Seth said "Bob is killing it today", so I presume he's done all the competition driving so far... although it's possible Seth took the third run at the AutoX.

Bob rocks!

The aforementioned MG V8 is having a better showing that I expected.
42 in Skidpad
35 in Autox

Squarely mid pack or better.

Cumulative results for 2 events so far:

Tom and Andy GTI at 29

Bob and Seth Rio at 31

These are the two highest placing cars that are just "plain ole cars" not the halo model of a manufacturer or the highest spec of a a model.
Edit: I guess Reg's 2009 GTI at 28 is also there just ahead of them but this car has some more mods on it than Tom's generally street spec engine.

MG V8 at 40

Very cool! Yeah, our car is much cheaper and much less modified than 90% of the field--is this what Sundae Cup feels like? Not a terrible way to do OLOA.

someone else to keep track of is forum user "BradLTL", who's running a Mini with his dad in SGT2-SB (seems like Retro got rolled into there this year, through lack of entries?).  Brad put his autocross background to use, clawing back positions from the wet skidpad.

also, looking through the livetiming from AutoX, I noticed venerible "good dudes" Bob&Ted were one of two mysterious SGT1-SB corvette entries (should be cars after 1991, >$55k, <3.7L).  Which implies that a) they managed to find one of the extremely rare 3.7L C6 corvette varieties;  b) are running on 6 cylinders, for the funsies;  c) someone tripped up when setting their classing.

Running the numbers, almost 25% of the field is entered in SGT1-BB; and 15% of the field are Corvettes... which, afaik, is the most numerous model entered this year.

edit:
The slip-up in SGT1-SB / SGT1-BB, and the sheer number of Corvettes/SGT1-BB entries, had me pondering what the "cheapest" mid-pack SGT1-BB entry would be?

No that last f up was all me. Car is gripping harder than I'm used to and turned into a slalom cone with the rear tire. It's wild having a car be this good.

KIA, are you watching?

now with all of todays fun and wins we really have nowhere to go but down in rankings sadly. The 110whp is going to start to shown itself the next few days. We got some great competitors both in class and overall.

Now that we've got some downtime, we're reviewing today's video to see if we can find opportunities. Interestingly, we both approached the autocross completely differently, and the perfect run would have elements from each of ours.

Here's the video if anybody else has comments:
