The starting line for today: two rows of cars and a guy with a green flag. It’s chill.

The road opens to the public at 9:00 a.m., so a few minutes beforehand, everyone’s loading up (quickly) and bugging out.

Tonight’s plans: Fan Fest in downtown Colorado Springs.

The wind just started howling outside my hotel window. It’s raining.

So the pattern I'm seeing here is that Hyundai loves inviting us to extremely foggy races

Despite the international level of recognition, it really is still a local race. It stands a bit apart from the other events in the Colorado hillclimb series (it's paved, for one) but not THAT far.

Now that is a good business plan. Last time I was there, there were no tacos. There were nothing.

Thanks for the invite, but we’re planning on watching the race from Picnic Grounds. Devil’s Playground was fun today.

And tomorrow’s the big day. I ate dinner, my gear is together, and I’m heading to bed in a few. We’re leaving the hotel at 3:15 in the a.m.

Today was our off day, so I spent the day checking out the local parks with a Tuscon. First was Garden of the Gods. Lovely scenery. Lotta people in areas but the hiking trails were quiet. I saw some deer.

The Tuscon performed flawlessly, even across several miles of dirt road.

I mostly shot film today but here are a few images from my phone.

And then over to Eleven Mile State Park where I just followed the river up to the dam. Lots of cool photo ops. In a week and a half or so, we’ll know how they came out.

After the park, I drove up and around to Eleven Mile Reservoir–dirt roads the entire way and not many people.
