So now that the Mustang is on track what's the total dollar amount?

As this was a budget build (budget by vintage big bore car standards) I am really curious...............granted I will probably faint but I still want to know.

Wish I was there.

There's also a CFR-SCCA autocross and track sprint there tomorrow for me to miss.

I'll be getting some continuing education hours this weekend.

First few laps out on track and Tim says car is feeling good at test pace.

I just got back in from my first laps in the car. And, well, it's not great. The front brakes don't seem to be working at all, which makes it sketchy at best. We're investigating now.

Were reached the "looking up things about the old car using the new phone" phase.

Okay we have determined that we need to bleed the brakes.

So did bleeding the brakes work?

Bleeding the brakes helped but still didn't completely solve the issue so we will have to diagnose back at the shop.
We ended the day after we had some mechanical issues so we have the car loaded back in the trailer and headed home.
Good news is the car looked and sounded good on track.

This is why you test. Car looked good, sounded good, and is going home in one piece.

What about the GTI?

I had one goal with the GTI: Do 5 back to back flying laps with the Catalyst running to collect data on the new intercooler. To do this, I needed a dry track, which meant I didn't go out until the end of the day. I've been to the FIRM before with this setup, but kept having Garmin glitches and errors over bumps. I 3D-printed a little clip to fix it:

And, as always, the GTI is undefeated. It clicked off six back to back hot laps with zero loss of pace. It's about 8 seconds/lap faster than the unsorted Mustang cruising around at half pace. Success!

From years of Being a Test engineer, you learn more at the track testing than you ever can learn on a Chassis or Engine Dyno.

Congratulation for bringing both cars home in one piece.

You and return for another day.

I was going to bet on the GTI- I don't really *want* it to "win", per se, but they are such competent cars, it would be hard to beat them in anything built in the 20th century. And then drive to work getting 35 mpg.

The wife likes the new M2, chubby as it is, but I'm hard pressed to buy her one of those when for 25k less, the GTI just gets it all done. It hurts my heart to put that in print.
