Mrs DX has a 14 VW Jetta with the 2 liter engine they have used forever. She is itching to get something newer around a 17 Jetta. It looks like they went to the 1.8 and 1.4 turbo engines for 16 and after. What does the hive say on these motors? I'd rather her stay with the 2 liter..
I've got the 1.8L in my GSW. It's a good motor. It's still young for me at only 15K but no problems with it so far. I felt the 1.4L I've had in rentals is a bit weak for the task.
I have a 15 Jetta SE with the "new" 1.8t and it gets along great, good mileage and no issues so far (~75k). I've had the 1.4 in rentals and I'd agree it's a bit weak in a car that heavy.
The 1.4t isn’t great in golfs. I’ll bet it’s worse in a Jetta. No idea on reliability. My experience is from rentals.
I almost bought a GSW w/the 1.8t and thought it was a solid motor. Somebody I know test drove a newer 1.4t Jetta and wasn't impressed with it. Mrs. DX has maybe 50k miles on her Jetta so its barely broken in.
