comment guy said: The car you want is a pre 85 mercedes diesel sedan. This is a mechanical engine not dependant on a computer. This car will run on diesel, kero, veg oil, or even waste oil. Without a doubt this is the car I want to get out of town should things get rough. On the other hand an older (Pre 1990) cummins powered road tractor would do the job too. Thats because You could roll start it and put the pump on manual. No electrical power is required at all, TRUTH!
The only real end of the world vehicles:
and maybe, if you're resourceful and can patch things together as they fail without needing a supply of new parts:
anything else would be useless pretty quickly.

Use sticks broken from a tree

With me operating them, both of those would get useless pretty quickly. I'd rather have a car.
I nominate:
Room to sleep, nice platform for shooting zombies on the shore, almost unsinkable, food supply is a fishing pole away. Cars will litter the roads making them impassable, and zombies can't swim.

think bigger my friend...
link several barges together, set anchor on a deep section of a wide river somewhere in the south...a few solar panels, some decent soil, a few cabins, and you could float several families indefinitely without issue.
The VW on the list is the only thing that can survive an EMP blast and still run. Hopefully the zombies won't have nukes.
In reply to N Sperlo:
No kidding, Just goes to show you that their writers are idiots. XJ for the win.

Whatchou talkin' bout?
(ninja edit, hehe)
@Maroon92: I meant that without a fuel or part source you're going to be having a lot of trouble keeping a vehicle functional for the rest of your life ... assuming you expect your life to be very long. There will be fuel sources for a little while but they'll be heavily predated by other survivors and will rapidly go bad, too. You might get by for a few years, but then a car is nothing more than a post-apocalyptic driveway ornament. No matter how burly and bad-ass. It would be even sadder to have one of those 10 ton masculine fantasies in your yard when it hasn't been fueled in 15 years.
@pinchvalve, 4cyl: Much better! But add a sail or two if you want it to move! :-)

And a tempting big ol' target. That's for after the initial craziness dies down and all the unprepared idiots have killed themselves off.

Negative. The Yota can be had with a carb.
