Yeah...but... you don't get the year of aggravation in the garage putting it all together and running the way you know it should. Where's the fun?

I just did that with the rx7 I'm not looking forward another year of that and with an immobile suburban i can move it out of the way to use my lift and with winter coming I dont want to park outside because im lazy.

Speaking of 8.1L.....

3/4 suburban 01

this is a viable option if all is good either to swap or to replace the vehicle.

Suburbans have the 4l80 trans, all the pickups have an Allison. Check the oil cooler lines as they all leak and it's impossible to see where they are leaking from until the motor seizes.

Nah, all 8.1 equipped "pick ups" got allisons. Avalanche and suburbans got the other (thought it was 4l80 but not sure) due to something with the floor.

Engine swaps are so much easier on the internet than in real life.

I'm a little over a year into a 8.1 swap... It needs maybe 8 hours of work for the last six months.

Do you have a build thread? I'd be curious to check it out.

also CK5.com has a great 8.1 resource thread: http://ck5.com/forums/threads/l18-8-1l-swap-resource-thread.308019/

oh and in unrelated/related news, a perfect donor truck.. http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/5874981889.html blue books more like 3000

Well the green truck was a bust, the body/frame were in surprisingly rust free/good condition for nearly 300k miles but everything else was bad. the truck was missfiring, didnt shift well, air ride blown etc etc. Not worth it.

I took a look at a 6.0 donor truck yesterday and it ran great and was a perfect candidate being rusty with new tires and needed wheel bearings/suspension replaced but it just didn't have the power as I expected.

now I gotta find me a non clapped out burban/yukon to test drive because I am leaning towards this big block idea a lot more. Considering any of the small blocks will be like my current one, needs to be wound out for towing. Whereas a big block is gobs of torque.

I think I'm going 8.1L.. expect an updated build thread soon...
