ls swaps ARE boring
but I still haven't found a better way to, well
"get er done"

You must not have seen my YouTube channel... I've driven several, including an 11-second swapped FC RX-7 that routinely nabs FTD overall at autocrosses.

This guy gets it. LS-swaps are common because they flat out work. Unfortunately, that ubiquity makes them boring.
I don't think many cars with LS swaps are boring cars, but I absolutely agree that it's hard to get excited about seeing the swaps. They're just SO common place these days. I don't blame anyone for choosing one either, it's just such a good performance platform how could you not consider it?
My biggest issue with the LS engines is the lack of a super cheap transmission. Sure you can get an LS derivative truck engine for a couple hundred bucks and make tons of power, but shelling out the big bucks for a T-56 is pretty tough (say for something like a $20XX challenge car).

You mean MANUAL transmission. There are just as many cheap auto transmissions out there to bolt up to the LSx and hold up fine as there are cheap LSx to be had.
So, for those of you that are tired of seeing the same ol' swaps...make the world a better place and do some stupid, crazy swap and show it to the world.
Bryce
Move to a different country. The motor swap I just did (TS20D into a Nubira) is more common here than an LS into anything. LSx are really expensive in a lot of markets too.

do a little homework- any manual trans that can be bolted to a regular small block can be bolted to an LS engine with a few easily sourced junkyard/parts store pieces.. got an old T10 laying around? easy enough.. a Ford Toploader would be an easy swap, too, if that's your thing. if you want to get good at swapping a trans on the shoulder of the road, a T5 or Saginaw 4 speed swap could also be pulled off pretty easily.
Yeah, T5s are light too. Under 75 pounds without bellhousing. Would an aluminum block, head, and intake SBF be boring?
Maybe in the very small microcosm of engine swaps, LS swaps are boring, but in the broader car universe any engine swap is by definition exciting.

Mike is just saying they are commonplace, and like most of us here he appreciates the car, but would be more technically excited by a 426 wedge in a Hillman, than by yet another LS7 in an FD,although the FD would, without a doubt, be faster in any circumstance.

... not in a TR-6
LS swaps are boring. It's like masturbating. And masturbating is like deciding whether or not to go out to eat.
If you "go out to eat," it might be REALLY awesome. Or it might not be great, and you'd want to send it back.
But if you stay home, you NEVER cook yourself something you hate. It's not as great as "going out to eat at a great restaurant," but it works.
LS swap = staying at home to eat = masturbating.

is that what they call it now
I want a 1uzfe
But the issue is that rebuild parts and aftermarket parts are few and far between, and EXPENSIVE. Plus the whole manual transmission thing. You end up spending a lot of money to have an inferior result. Sad but true.
The LS swap is overdone because it's the best option by a significant margin.

Not only are they boring, but I'm getting really tired of every so called hot rod having a stock late model engine in it, whether an LS, Coyote or Hemi. Yeah, they're all great engines. And boring.
I always find myself wanting to put Nissan RB##T motors in everything...theres just something sexy about a boosted inline six getting the job done. Bonus points for GTR AWD system swap too...

I also like boost.
And the howl of a smaller motor. Once it gets above 4.0 litres, i'm not really interested any more.
Oh, and i like LOTS of boost. LOTS of boost in an LS = power that doesn't belong on the street.

Sounds like the flathead guys from the fifties.
Speaking of boring LS swaps... Saw a older Benz sedan (large squareish grill) and couldn't help but think how that would be with LS-ness under the hood...
