After months of searching, the East Coast Timing Association has found a new venue for its 2012 land-speed racing season: a 9,000-foot runway at the Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio.
After making a pitch earlier this week to the Clinton County Port Authority, which oversees the Air Park, ECTA co-owners Joe Timney and Keith Turk signed a deal on Wednesday to bring four races to the Air Park next year. According to Tonya Turk, the ECTA’s membership director, the deal will just cover the 2012 season, but the ECTA directors have a goal of developing a long-term relationship with the Wilmington Air Park.
For the last 15 years, the ECTA has conducted its land-speed runs on a stretch of little-used World War II-era runway in Maxton, North Carolina. The group started looking for a new location when directors learned that the the Gryphon Group, a private security company that leases the land the ECTA uses for its events, would not allow the ECTA to use the runway after its fifth and final event of the 2011 season, which takes place next month.
According to Turk, the Wilmington runway is actually shorter than the Maxton runway, but it is in much better condition and straight where Maxton was not. No dates have yet been set for the ECTA 2012 season at Wilmington, but Turk said they’re aiming to conduct their first event at the end of April.

I've been hoping this would happen...
WOOOOT!!!!!
Looks like i'm chasing a record next summer!
They don't have an online rulebook, do they?
As far as I know, you have to buy it.
I posted a few links in the previous thread about this a day or two ago... most of the rules were in there.

Awesome!
Step 1 - lose 100 pounds
Step 2 - go after the "under 50 CC" record!

I'm going after the 125 cc 4 stroke records. It was planned for this year, but I just don't have the time. Maybe being closer, I can put my car back together, and get more of the 1.0 L records.
really need to get the dang rulebook. I am doing SOMETHING next year. The pull is too strong. And I have a garage now, so I think the bike is getting torn down and rebuilt, and I am going on a serious diet!
Something to warm the bones over the long winter.
Distance to Wilmington - 169 miles.
Distance to Maxton - 605 miles.
Always wanted to go to lsr event. yehaw!

Buy the rulebook. Without a fair amount of safety gear, including a cage, you're limited to 135 mph.
That being said, LSR is a freaking blast. I ran at Maxton last year with my Challenge Shadow and it was a ton of fun. True home built racing. I missed this years April meet due to a family conflict, but I will definitely be in OH at some point in '12.
Glad they found a new venue. And a rulebook is a requirement. They are closer to NHRA then SCCA or NASA...
Nice...Im pretty sure thats DHLs old place...Wilmington is only a half hour from me. Very exciting...hope to see some of you guys there!
EDIT:
when the schedule gets fleshed out, whos in favor of a GRM meet up for these events?

I'm definitely maybe game. I'm only about 45 minutes away from Wilmington to boot.
I'm a few hours away, but I will be there anyway. Can't wait!
I'm absolutely in, will be chasing records in ZE Deathscort!
sounds like fun, I probly will run not run any thing. But it still sounds like a fun way to kill an after noon, besides its only 30minutes away, woot woot
I will have to see what I can bring along and run in.
Hmmm, fastest SUV
Woo Hoo!
About an 8 1/2 hour drive west from here. I'll have to check with Wheels to see if he wants to caravan out together.
Might have to rethink the plans for my 2010/2011/maybe 2012 (or some year) Challenge truck. The original plan was for the Challenge then evolve to LSR & track days.
Sure, get a ram air (deep water snorkle) STS and go for it! Wrap the snorkle in copper pipe for air to water intercooling backwoods still style. That thing would eat my Suburban for breakfast
