So I got a screamin deal on some new BFG Rugged Terrain tires. 245/70/17 size. Only problem is that my Chevy has 16" wheels. So I could upgrade to the newer Chevy OEM wheels (8 bolt BTW) or I could get a new set of aftermarket wheels.

I found a set I really like and they're pretty good price, but they are 8.5" wide. Tire Rack says the recommended rim width for these exact tires is 6.5"-8". Is the extra 1/2" really going to make a huge difference? They may be a bit "stretched" but not significantly I wouldn't say. I'm really not going for the hella flush look on my 3/4 ton pickup...

Bottom line: Will these tires work with these wheels?

I'd say they work. I know apples to oranges and all, but I run 245/4017 on a 9" wheel on my ms3. Seems to fit good.

its a 70 profile tire. you wont really notice the extra .5 inch width.

since the tire is 9.6 inches wide, an 8" rim should work fine. or even 8.5"

Thanks guys, you all agree with me. Not sure if this is a good thing, but it makes me feel smart!
