I'm ordering some of these soon. Does anybody have a preferred vendor? What should I get?

I thinking three digits, a 1 (for a potential co-driver and more number combos), a 6 (can be used at a 9) and something else, probably a 7 or a 4 because I like these numbers. DS (for D Stock) and a T (my local clubs "Street Tire" designation).

I'm thinking "cream" color, as I think that will look good in an old-timey sorta way on my BRG MINI Cooper S w/ black roof. I am a little concerned that "cream" would be hard to see on other colors, should I use a different car someday.

I just went to home depot and bought the magnetic vent covers and cut out numbers. Although if you do that you can only have white unless you cover it with another color of vinyl first.

I don't have any suggestions for vendors. When I got my permanent numbers cut I went to a local guy (Artifex Garage in Columbus), he does magnetic as well.

In reply to LainfordExpress: http://www.izoomgraphics.com/ Very high quality and great choice of colors and styles. My problem with the Home Depot vent covers is that the material is too thin and will fly off over time. If you want to go the DIY way start with a high quality magnetic sheet that is .030" thick. For example http://www.dickblick.com/products/flexible-magnetic-sheet/

Anybody had experience with ink-jet printable stuff? I like my current numbers and I have access to a large-format inkjet. I've been printing them on photo-like paper and bluetaping them to the door, but I would love to have a magnetic set.

I need at least 12x18 and 14x18 would be better. Though I am considering ditching the driver name / flag thing and going with meatballs. I like white meatballs on a dark car.

A HUGE +1 for iZoom (a GRM advertiser BTW). I bought a set of their economy numbers 2 seasons ago and had my first failure this year (a number started to split and when it came off the car it got ran over). These have been on and off the car at over 2 dozen events, all dual-driver, and have held up over rain and sleet. I'm buying a single replacement # as the other 5 are still excellent.

I just went down to either Michael's or Beverly's and bought sheets of 8.5x11" magnetic stuffs.

I used a pencil to mark the middle, and drew numbers that made maximum use of the space, and cut out the rest. Where the numbers touch, I darkened the lines with sharpie.

It helps that our club uses permanent numbers.

Here's what I did. I bought a blank panel from this company for less than $20. Then I bought some transfer film from Office Depot, like this, except it was a package of 10 for about $15. I printed the numbers on my laser printer at work and stuck them to the panel, and it came out like this for less than $40:

I got magnetic sheeting from here for next to nothing, bought some shelf paper from Lowes or Home Despot, picked a font I liked and printed some numbers on regular printer paper, traced and cut out the numbers on the shelf paper, applied to the magnetic sheeting and BAM, cool looking numbers for cheep.

Now they're attached to my tool box. :(

I used iZoom as well. Numbers are still holding up well 3 years later.

Cobra, your car brings back memories. My first autox car was a white 92 Achieva SCX W41 and it had those same wheels on it (came with stock SCX wheels as well). That was a fun car.

I got mine from izoom as well. The ONLY gripe I have is they get a little bit inflexible in low temps and this sometimes causes the corners to curl a little bit. As long as I remember to throw them on the hood for a few minutes while its still warm, I don't have any problems with them. I assume this would be a problem with any magnet thick enough to stay put on the car. They've been forgotten on the side of the car and made a 70(ish)mph, 90 minute highway trip home with no problems, so they stick REALLY well.

EDIT: Wow, zombie thread.

I cheated and went the full route and bought a vinyl cutter for $700 and a 125 foot roll of magnetic material. I can change numbers, add "sponsors" etc. I sell decals at some of our events and give the proceeds to the relay for life cancer walk.

I bought sheets of material from the local sign place. It is very easy to cut, scissors and exacto. I made several sets for Street Legal iceracers. It can even be painted.
