I have a Makita corded impact that has been a great tool for almost 20 years. Lately, it's been refusing to start sometimes. If I rotate it it may choose to go, sometimes it takes multiple tries. Would this have brushes that may be the problem. Could it be something else, like a intermittent trigger ? Just looking for ideas before I tear it apart. A parts source would be useful, too.

I'm thinking brushes, not trigger, based on the rotating it thing.  Don't have a parts source.  I tried calling a repair center once and they wanted as much for a thermal limit switch as I could buy a whole new driver for.  Maybe amazon.

What model is it?

I would have to second the idea of brushes needing to be replaced.  An ohm check on the switch while you are in there might be a good thing too.  Not sure if it can be taken apart to be freshened up though.

Current Electric may be a local source for brushes.  They do all of our rebuild work.

In reply to paranoid_android :

It took me awhile to find a model number, the sticker is missing. Looks like a 6905H, so I was able to find parts places on line . Brushes and a switch would be less than 30 bucks if that's the right number. My wife keeps absolutely everything, and she's looking for the original parts list or manual that came with it !
