Anybody interested in a new v-8 diesel truck? Looks like Nissan may be coming out with a Cummins powered Titan next year. No real specifics, but worth mentioning.
Titan diesel?
Edited to add "Not a Canoe!" Just know some of the folks here are interested in diesel tow vehicles...
Another big win would be if Nissan would offer the diesel in it's Titan based Van.
No other diesel van other than Sprinter.

The Van and the Titan share the same frame, so I'd say it's possible. They're built not 50 feet apart in the same building, even.
I greatly dislike Nissan, but the Cummins diesel is intriguing enough for me to look at one.
The upcoming Transit van is also getting a diesel. Maybe not exactly apples to oranges, but interesting none the less. I don't see a ton of Titans around, what's wrong with them?
Ahh finally they found a buyer for the cummins light duty. I can talk more if anyone wants.

Still Titan. No want.
So true.
I don't know how they do it, but Nissan is a four letter word...

And????
Not built like the standard cummins motors with a crazy turbo compound setup. They have a vgt and a small conventional with a sort of turn valve in the exhaust stream to divert
Flow between the two turbos. Not in series, sort of parallel with but variable. Horrible reliability of the valve in development. Hopefully they have changed that.
Engines were spotted for about 300 horse and 30mpg. Urea would take away the need for most of the induction trickery and probably eliminate one turbo, but cummins prides itself on in cylinder controls vs external controls.

Sweet!

Yeah.... I just loved fixing them too.
I'd be happy with just a Ridgeline.
Actually, what I want is a 2nd gen Ridgeline with a diesel. That'd be bitchin'. Just don't make it all monster trucky; I really think the Ridgeline is just about the perfect amount of truck for me. Maybe could use a smidge more towing capacity, maybe 6500lbs.
One more thing. Iirc the bottom end on these engines will not take kindly to too much chip swapping and power increasing.
If they can pull 300hp and 30mpg, they'll sell quite a few of them. I am very interested, but as LE says above, just a bit smaller would be good. I'm looking for something Dakota/Colorado sized with that VM motori 3.0 that gets 30MPG. I'd strongly consider the full size with those numbers though.

I'm considering a diesel Grand Cherokee soon. 30 mpg highway is kind of nice when work is ~30 miles away.

This.
If I could buy another Frontier, or get a Tacoma instead with a good mpg and tow rating, I'd be all over it.
I really don't like how big the modern full sizes are, but the wheelbase/weight sure is nice for towing.
I remember hearing a few years ago that Cummins was developing a 4 cyl. diesel for Nissan. I wish they would do this still and put it in the Frontier and Xterra, and then put the V8 in the Titan and Armada. I'm a long time Nissan fan, but most of that love ended in the 90's or early 2000's when they stopped making stuff in Japan. Unfortunately most of their stuff now is pretty crappy (except for the few items still built in Japan). The Titans are tough and have tons of power, but their crappy Dana axles always break and Nissan can't make a catalytic converter to save their lives. I hope this diesel is as cool as it sounds and does well!
Oh, and isn't that Italian made diesel in the Grand Cherokee and the Liberty a total piece of junk? I feel like I read that somewhere...
I was a bit surprised to see it was a Cummins V8 instead of an inline six. Still, sounds interesting.

I really can't believe Nissan bought off on the Cummins LDD. I remember they initially shot down the Cummins proposal, because when questioned by Nissan about oil leakage, one fool replied, "... they all do that."
The Cummins Atlas was supposed to be destined for the 2015 Nissan Titan, and still is as far as I know. I don't understand why they would go with the LDD instead of wait for the engine that was partially designed for the Titan. Before Atlas got their new all aluminum engine up and running they were testing their turbo and emissions controls on a modified ISF 2.8 in the current Titan. I remember the LDD one piece timing cover being a son of a bitch to seal (plastic cover, iron block, aluminum heads and no gasket). Hopefully they got that figured out; the engine has been "under development"(on life support) for like 7 years now.

Still going to be. $7k or so premium for the motor. Gotta think hard of it'll pay off.

Me too. I figure it's gotta be for packaging. Those 6.7s used in the Dodge 2500/3500 are some big lumps. Heavy, too.

Nissan needs to try something. I'd bet a large number of truck buyers forget they even make trucks. And putting a Cummins engine in the bay makes it 'almost' sound 'American'..
I suppose we should be thankful they aren't trying to stuff some French engine in there...

<<<<Still have nothing good to say about Cummins......but I like the idea of diesels in half ton trucks. Hopefully they are built to grenade the engine if anyone attempts to "roll coal" with them.

They also developed a v6 at the same time. Packaging was a major issue. As well as weight and price point.
In reply to Ian F: they are made in TN. Don't make me flounder this thread on "domestic" trucks argument!
