Have you guys seen the youtube review of the Twin where he gets blown away by a mini van?

That 0-60 is absolutely BS as far as street driving. That's an all out launch from a stop light. Nobody is doing that on their commute.

This is more a commentary on how fast day to day cars like camry's and mini vans have become.

For ME (emphasis on ME) I like having lots of mid range punch/torque in my DD so I can waft past someone when I need to. I fully admit I'm a power junkie, my DD has 475hp, my LS swapped 951 has 500+. It's been awhile since I've owned something with "only" 200ish hp.

I do that nearly everyday thanks to the metering lights they place on the on-ramps here to try and help traffic merge. I routinely launch my cars from the lights because the on-ramps are short and unlike many I want to be faster than the traffic I'm merging with, plus its fun.

Some random Youtuber getting beat by a Minivan means very little to me. I've passed a v8 Camaro on track while driving a 100 horsepower Honda Civic. It has little to do with the car in many cases.

Go find and watch the video. He's trying.

So turboswede, at every light you're revving the car up to 5000rpm, and dumping the clutch at WOT?

Regardless.

The point is that why doesn't this car get a pass when GRM's favorite car, The Answer, does?

This thing is pretty much faster everywhere than any Miata to precede it, and i've ever heard Miata owners on here say how much more powerful their Miata felt off the line.

Which is the most ridiculous thing i think i've ever heard.

If someone is SERIOUSLY concerned with this thing keeping up with traffic, then they probably live in Dubai and only drive with the richest berkeleyers out there.

People's idea of speed changes. Back when I started autocrossing, a FRS/BRZ would have been considered a rocket ship, and would probably have been classed in something like A Stock with a 944S2 and the like.

I'm just hoping after a few more years we will see if the FI setups are still reliable.

Not that I've kept a car that long in the last 5 years.

Don't assume. I'm merely sharing my viewpoint, which obviously differs from yours and unlike you, I respect your viewpoint. I just dont necessarily agree with it, but thats one of the joy of the internet and our country, isnt it?

Anyway, when I'm getting on the freeway, I will use WOT when there is a chance to accelerate to match freeway speeds. When you aren't at a roll, then 0-60 can be fairly important because you have to accelerate from a dead stop to 60 or 70mph in a short distance thanks to the old freeways we have here.

We have short on-ramps here as well, and I still never had a problem with a 1.6 Miata.

The car has no issue keeping up with traffic... it can get to triple digit speeds really easily. Maybe people having issues accelerating with the car aren't driving with the nannies 'off'...

FRS 0-60 in different modes...

And speaking of v8s in Twins...you should check out the Vorshlag site on their LSX swap project... such lovely pictures!

So much good content!

Twins have a huge freaking engine bay for a small car, swallows a V8 without difficulty. And the front structure disassembles easy too (designed in to make it tuner/custom friendly...)

I live in a world where people argue over 0-60 times as if the fate of the universe depended on it, and yet at any streetlight, it takes the average driver 5 seconds to get through the intersection when the light changes.

What am I missing in this chain of logic?

Neither have I in our 01 4-cylinder Highlander (175hp 2.4L) but that's mostly because I actually use all of the power it has when I accelerate, unlike most people around here who don't accelerate until they get to the end of the onramp, I have been known to merge early and into the middle lane while they are trying to figure out how to merge.

It ain't always the size of the motor in the boat, but how you use it.

Anyone who's ever ridden with me always thinks my econo-cars are fast. I once had a buddy ask me "you sure this doesn't have a different engine? We're doing 90...in an Escort." Too which I replied, "No engine swap, just 85 raging horses."

Anyone who's driven my Miata on worn out coilovers and wider than stock tires is surprised "it doesn't feel slow," exactly, it isn't your grandmother's Buick. You can FEEL the road.

I would never consider a new STI. I like small cars and the BRZ/FRS is still rare enough that a proper exhaust, suspension, and wheel setup looks very unique and has most people turning heads.

agreed...

and as far as merging early.... depending on the amount of room (being safe), I've actually merged and passed slow ramp drivers before they've entered the road.

...... I'm not typically in the commuter traffic... but who thought STOPPING on the on-ramp was a good thing??? Yeah, yeah metering in traffic... Oregonians (and Washingtonians) need to learn how to get up to speed and merge smoothly.

If I go by what I have seen in 40 years of driving, merging onto a highway is a concept that eludes 99.98% of drivers.

I've managed to avoid testing one so far. I'm stuck on the MR-S want from THAT test drive. I don't think my wallet would like me lusting after an MR-S, FJ Cruiser, AND a BRZ.

Yeah, as much as I dislike Subaru engines, I suspect that if I test drove one, I'd have one coming home with me fairly shortly.

You guys are crazy. I drove an F650 with a six speed today. 0-45 in at least 60 seconds Shift into sixth at 45 mph and stand on it for another 40 or so seconds. I managed to merge onto I35 four times today. Believe me, a Frisbee would have felt like a Ferrari to me.
