tall gearing for fuel savings. It would prob run in the high 14's with the 6 speed from the FiST.

If I can merge onto a highway at 75mph with a god damn 3 cylinder, 1.0L 65hp (in 1989 mind you) Sprint that weighs 1600 pounds, you certainly can do it safely in a 2400lb car with 100hp/100tq built in 2012. Maybe you are one of those people that think revving a motor high is 4000rpm...
He's used to driving rotaries so I hope not. I've always driven underpowered cars so I'm used to winding them out in order to merge on the highway.

My question is: If this thing is making damn near 150whp in a 2500lb car, why is it still slow? Shouldn't this be a high-14 second car at that point?
I think they run in the high 15's.
Considering the weight, almost 2600, that is about right.

Exactly. I havent seen anything to back up that ~146whp dyno.

Considering 2500lb sohc neons with 132 CRANK hp can run high 15s, i'm still pretty skeptical. I think they are underrated by a decent bit, but i DONT think they make ~150whp in any kind of consistent fashion. I agree with others who think they should be a low 15 car pretty easily at that point and there's not a single magazine article anywhere suggesting that a stock one is even remotely quick, and i havent seen anyone posting any timeslips in any of these fiesta threads either.

Not at any of the ones I shop at currently..... Nothing but the S to ST models, no xfe's.
I might have to go with the mazda 2 since the price I just got a quote on I can get a Mazda 2 + insurance for $20 less a month than just the monthly payment on a Fiesta.
Test drove a 2 on saturday. It was an autotragic touring since that is all the dealership has on the lot. It was still fairly peppy with the auto. The salesman claims he can match any mazda dealers price, we will see about that since a dealer in Kentucky has a few 14 sport manuals for $12.9k. Truecar says I can get one for $13.2k(in white since that is extra) so I am hoping to get $11.5k out the door with my trade in.

Yeah, my sad little 2000 Civic DX beater has a rousing 107hp and I've NEVER had an issue merging onto a freeway. It does just fine.
That 1.0L Ecoboost sounds like a rad little engine.
