Mazda Vision Study - EV Miata?

Not a Miata. To Mazda, a Miata is a convertible. They've made this quite clear over the years.

Could be an RX-7 successor, or the replacement for that long-hood ICE they previewed a while back. But it'll slot above the Miata in the food chain.

Shame.  I'd love a EV Miata hardtop.

You can always put your own badge on it :) That's really all it would take. We know Mazda knows how to make sports cars, so this will be a sports car no matter what name they put on it. But "next Miata" gets clicks, so the blog writers name check it.

Mazda already makes a Miata coupe if you pull the fuse for the power hardtop.

I like it, it looks better than their RX-Vision concept, it's kind of a blend of an FD + FC + ND....and the end result is a bit like a Toyobaru. The back end also reminds me of an S2 Elise.

Accompanying the announcement is news that Mazda is no longer a gaspunk company, which is good because I don't want to see Mazda go out of business:

It's clearly just a render, more like an animated notebook doodle than a study or concept. But if it indicates future design direction at Mazda, I have no problem with it :)

Its butt looks kinda Lotus-ish.  Not a bad thing.

Gran Turismo has been tricking journalists with these design studies to include in their video game for like a decade now.

Now someone do a render of a road legal height front bumper/people punter. 

I'm just excited that any car company is teasing us with pictures of sporty cars that they are working on.
