Mrs. poop's 2013 is at 120k right now and it dawned on me I haven't really replaced anything but brakes, tires, serpentine belt, oil.
Should I do stuff like plugs, wires, fuel-filter, etc? Or "treat it like a sore dick" and don't berkeley with it?
Also, are calipers a "known issue?" Passenger side rear had almost no pad, while driver side had 60%
I did plugs and coil boots, cleaned maf, and rear shocks and sway bar bushings on my wifes 07 mazda5 at about 120-130k, and it needed all of it.

I don't know if it's a known issue or not, but my wife's three-pedal-minivan (which also a 2013) needed a new right side rear caliper at about 70k or thereabouts.
In reply to wae :
Weird. Seems like evidence enough that it's at least "common."
This a first gen, but maybe this is the issue?
Wouldn't surprise me. 75% of all mazda brake jobs ive done had at least one caliper with stuck sliders.

Oh, interesting! From a quick scan of the comments, it seems like that's not uncommon. Mine was clamped up pretty hard against the rotor and even after opening the bleeder, it was all I could do to get the piston to retract using a C-clamp.

increase to 100% and we're on the same page. mazda rear caliper slide pins are dog E36 M3.

Yeah, but im in the south where E36 M3 doesn't rust!
Our 2012 Mazda5, owned since new, at 100K, I just did the plugs, and it was my 3rd trans flush. Usual filters, but I did those every 30k miles. On mine at 92k, 2 shocks died, so I installed Bilsteins at all 4 corners. No caliper issues on mine.

Any idea what the factory recommended interval is on trans fluid/filter?
Did pads and rotors on my daughters 2012 at around 80k and both rear calipers were almost completely frozen to the sliders. Oddly enough there was no rust. It was like the grease they used turned in to glue. I cleaned the up and put some waterproof high pressure grease on them and they were back to working perfectly.
My 09 5 has been severely neglected cuz if my wife doesn't complain I don't fix it. 180k on it now, I have changed the dampers, ball joints and brakes. That is it since 96k when I took over ownership. I pulled a plug once last year, but the ones I had on the shelf were wrong so in went the old ones, runs fine.
It now needs another ball joint and the rear is starting to need some bushings/arm,s oh and it has a bad wheel speed sensor somewhere. The 5 responds well to neglect but it will be my twin boys first car two years from now so we'll start fixing it up.

That would require reading the owners manaul. Who has time for that
In all seriousness between 8-6 and 8-10 in owners manual, mine doesn't have any mention of Trans fluid.
I did mine at 30, 60, 100.
At least it doesn't say "lifetime fluid" like my Lexus, which I also do a 30k change interval on.
Relevant! My 13 is about to roll 90k. Bought at 82, I did a drain and fill on the trans with the last oil change. Still need to check the brakes, but I bought it at a dealer and they always check everything really well, right?
Dad is going to sell me his '08 Fit and we're looking at Mazda 5's for him.
these were on the way out when I was at Mazda on the sales side from 2014-2017.
The Gen 1 Mazda 3 have rust issues, do the Mazda 5 have this same issue?
We're looking at 09-13 years around the 100k miles ish
We're shopping used in the greater Chicago area.
I know what to look for on a used car in a general sense, what i'm curious about.. is there anything i need to look for that are warning signs?
The 12+ don't seem to rust like the previous gen, I didn't have the slider issue but I did break both caliper bolts off in the carrier, wow! I never did much maint beyond what it asked for, I took it to the dealer for chain, tensioner, etc.. at 120k and he asked if it was making noise; I said no and he said to bring it back when it did. 165k it made noise so they did all that work for me.
In reply to chandler :
good to know the timing chain and tensioner is a wear item.

The Curse of ATE, aka why when I wanted a late model Volvo, I bought the only one they made without those accursed calipers.

Beat me to it. That's the interval I always used, unless the manual called for less (BRZ calls for 22k for example) or it was being abused.

Fixed.
You've done brakes that wore out without something all seized up?
Oh, right, drum brakes! Silly me, I forgot about those.

I berkeleying hate AT's and every time I've ever thought "I'll be a responsible person and change the fluid/filter/gasket" it's turned into "my once perfectly shifting vehicle now has transmission problems."
Maybe it's a "me" thing.
In reply to poopshovel again :
Yup I hate AT too, but I always have a few in stable (wife's car + soulless family cars to haul kids). Never had issues after fluid changes in the last 20+ years of following 30k changes on both AT and MT for my fleets
