River City Bimmers BMW Car Club of America and the Porsche Club of America - Mid South Region are proudto be sponsoring Tire Rack Street Survival here in the Memphis area. This important program is managed by theBMW Car Club of America Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting car safety. In conjunction with Tire Rack, Street Survival is a course that is expected to be presented more than 70 times this year throughout the United States.This course is designed to teach the novice driver, age 16 - 21, to better handle their daily driver whether it’s a FordRanger pick up or a Ferrari or anything in between. While the vehicle make and model isn’t important, learning how to better handle the vehicle IS what is important. Driver’s education in schools is often non-existent these days. Most parents pay to have one of the local driving schools to teach their sons & daughters the mechanics of learning how to drive a vehicle. Tire Rack Street Survival takes this a step farther and teaches the student the next steps in car handling - what their vehicle actually does in anemergency situation and how to better control the vehicle. The goal of this course is to learn better car control beforethe student experiences it the hard way. Students will learn about weight transfer in the car as the car goes through corners, how the car feels when the ABS is actively engaged, how to better change lanes in an emergency situation, and what understeer and oversteer feel like on two different skid pads while learning how to control the resulting skids. A couple of demonstrations will be available for the student to experience. What REALLY happens when an airbag deploys? A semi-truck can easily see me when I’m 3 seconds behind, right? Why explain reality when it can be experienced? As we all know, experience is a good teacher. Instructor to student ratio will be 1 instructor per 2 students. The group will be split into 2 groups so siblings who drive the same vehicle can participate in the program easily. While one group is in the classroom, the other groupwill be on the driving course. Each student will have an instructor. PLEASE mark on your calendars Saturday, November 8th for Memphis first Tire Rack Street Survival class to be held here in the Memphis area. It will be at the Millington Airport from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.Registration is OPEN now - go to www.streetsurvival.org and select the “School Schedule/Registration linkand select the “Millington Regional Jetport” to register. The website goes over all the details - cost is $60 per student. This price includes food and beverages throughout the day. The student must have a valid drivers permit or valid drivers license to participate in the program. If you have or know someone who is 16 to 21 years of age, theyneed this class.
