I figured it out, it is the oil drain-back from the stock catch can. Amazing what some searching can do .

Ditch that stock catch can. It's garbage. Under high speed cornering, oil will come back UP the drain and into the can, then you'll be smoking nicely, as the can is pretty small.
A Cusco replacement is on my shopping list for winter, to be installed in spring.
But hey, at least it's nice they made an effort, huh?
Any generic one will work. WeaponRs can be found in fleabay for cheap. Or just look through the summit catalog.
I got some Summit branded tanks for the escort. Oil catch, and coolant overflow. I think i paid $30 for both?
I haven't made much progress yet. Just removing some unnecessary components such as the PS pump and AC compressor.
I am still saving up to buy a MSPNP. I also need to get a blowoff valve since the stock BPV is broken.
That would save me some money for now . How much do you want for it? What other stock parts do you have?
I have injectors, most of the intake piping, head unit (not sure if it works)... maybe some other stuff, i need to check out the boxes.
I have a stock muffler on the way, decided not to ship all the exhaust since it turned out you had one.
$20 shipped sound fair for the stocker? Orrrr.... i'll be picking up some steelies from cghstang in a week or two, if you just want to try to meet up then?
I could also use the intake pipe that attaches to the throttle body. Mine has a rip in it.
I might be able to meet up depending on when it is. Otherwise I could paypal you the money and get the parts from Chris next time I see him.
I should have that, too. I'll take a pic of all the piping i have. How's $50 sound for all the piping i have and the BPV?
I'll post pics and we'll go from there. I'll let you both know when the MX6 is back up and running then we'll work out a meeting time.
I may not need that BPV after all. I was looking at the MSM engine next to the 1.6 today and if I swap the coolant neck from the 1.6 to retain the temp sensor it will occupy the same space as the stock BPV. I could use an aftermarket BOV in a different position or possibly relocate the stock one?
Also, the small line that comes out of the front of the BPV to a nipple on the intake manifold is broken off (nipple broke off manifold. Is that necessary with a VTA BOV? If so could I reroute the line to another place on the manifold so I don't have to deal with drilling out the broken one?

You can relocate the stock one, a BPV is a BPV.
If that nipple is the one i think it is, it's not the one that actually re-circulates, and yes, you'd still need it, or another one off the intake manifold even if you went VTA. That's the reference line that tells the unit to relieve pressure.
Hope that made sense... i can take pics of my current recirc setup if that would help?
Yea, I realized what that small line was for after I typed it, just forgot for a bit .
If you could post some pictures that would be great. I think I saw some over on CR but can't remember what thread they were in.
I'm just kinda looking for an excuse to get a fancy BOV rather than the lame stock plastic one .

Heh, the stock plastic one isn't the greatest unit, either... i'd use it on a stock-ish car, and that's about it. If you wanted to stay BPV, i'd be looking at Forge or trying to get a stock one off an SW20 Turbo.
If you want a fancy one on a budget, you can sometimes find good deals on Turbosmarts.
I managed to get a deal on a Greddy RZ brand new for extremely cheap, but the store i got it from seems to have gone under. (not surprised, it wasn't the best buying experience ever.)
But they can sometimes be found new on ebay for under $100.
The stock bypass valve on the MSM sucks. It's leaky, and that means your turbo's hard work on building boost goes to waste. We've spoken to Mazda engineers about it and they acknowledge that the same unit sucked even back when it was on the RX7 Turbo 2.
Not much work being done on it lately. I did get the MSM suspension on it though so I am getting closer.
I am having a few troubles with the PNPMS, I tried to flash the PNP map on it and it won't start up. It fires for half a second then dies. I noticed in MegaTune that the green "spark light" comes on when it fires then goes off and the engine dies then comes back on for a second.
I am finally starting to work on pulling the engine. This is what happens when I leave my car in the driveway for a couple weeks without driving it:
Also, does anyone know what these two nipples are for? They are on the back of the engine and the oil filter adapter. Are they supposed to connect together?
