99 miata that's been beaten. Like it owes me money.
Have the whole rears suspension and cradle blown apart for cleaning and painting.
Looking at the axles, it there any maintenance I should do? Any way to make sure they are still good? Never heard them make any noise, and the boots aren't leaking....
Also: Looking on the internet new axles are way cheaper than used. Why?
I'm not sure if this holds true for the miatas.... it certainly held true for 2nd generation rx7s and E30 bmws...
Original OEM axles seemed to last forever. The aftermarket new ones seemed to last about 1 or 2 track weekends.
The only thing I have ever done for OEM axles is to clean and lube with a really good high temp lube and possibly, stick a very small diameter straw under the boot to let out any excess pressure to help the boot survive.
If they still rotate around the joint smoothly and plunge smoothly, I'm not sure I would do anything to them.
Fair enough! Thank you sir.
