Now that autocross season is over, naturally it was time to replace pads and rotors on the back of the Miata
Everything went... fairly smoothly.
BUT, now my e-brake doesn't work.
and my left rear might not be doing much of anything when I'm on the stop pedal.
and the right rear locks up under hard braking (the other three do not)
Installed Hawk HPS pads and OEM style rotors, followed internet directions regarding the adjuster screw (until it drags, back a third of a turn)
FWIW: Hawk HPS all around, FM VMAXX sport, cheap all seasons, in the damp
Autocrossing the other day (granted, in the dry, on Rivals, OEM rear pads) was locking up the fronts with some frequency
Am I missing something?
Do I need to change my idea of how much drag is 'ok' ?
Is my assumption that lack of e-brake function indicates lack of rear brake usefulness sound?

How did you adjust the calipers? I put the wheels on and adjust the caliper screw until there is some resistance when turning the wheel.
Adjuster screw: bottom it out, then back 1/3 turn. No goofing around with drag.
Did you lubricate the slider pins?

and put the lugnut on the brake rotor with the non tapered side in so the rotor sits flat when you follow keith's instructions.
Thanks Gents!
Slider pins are moving well, followed Mr. Tanners advice on bottoming out first, things seem to be working appropriately now.
Update: It would appear that over the summer the tire that ended up on the left rear lost a little bit of air pressure.
and by little bit I mean nearly 15 PSI.
That's... half the pressure the rest were running.
that might account for some of the difference in braking left to right
I really need to buy a miata.

Don't. They'll ruin other cars for you.

Don't. Unless you're under six foot.

I only back off a quarter turn, but I do a calibrated hand, drag test.

that *might* account for some of the difference in braking left to right
Umm, how often are you checking air pressure? On autoX days I might only check mine 6-8 times. But for it to have lost 15 psi.....
ninja edit: reread your post, oops. sorry man
In reply to SnowMongoose: I'm 6'1" and I can fit in one(barely). I just can't drive it for heavy daily use.

Or just buy the FM rear Wilwood kit and say goodbye to the stupid adjuster screw forever. :) I hate that thing!
In reply to Mr_Clutch42:
I'm 6'3'' with a loooong torso, I daily mine because I'm an idiot.
Still not certain I'll ever be able to pass the broomstick test when I decide to go beyond Autocross...
May have to bolt a kirkey to the floor for that.
