I'm getting conflicting information. Is the 1.8 Miata motor interference?

The old Miata Club of America used to swear it was an interference engine. But they were wrong. Is not.

valves meet pistons when the belt or chain breaks or loses timing... hence "interference"

An non-interference engine will free spin without causing damage.. an interference engine.. usually makes a nice boat anchor

I know the question was answered a number of times, but you can use this link for any engine to see if it is interference.
