Obviously the comment was scripted smack talk but yes the Miata is a man purse with wheels, one with a solid steel liner so please bring your manly car to a local track so I may bludgeon you with my man purse on wheels. I love macho preconceived notions when it comes to cars and bikes, it's a great chance to have fun at some goobers expense. Favorite memories include HS friends who stupidly challanged a 100lb cyclist girl at our school to a 30 mile bike race.......she waxed them. Dufus guy pitted next to us at Willow Springs making comments about my kiddie 125 GP bike and why don't I ride a proper bike like his CBR600........in the 600 and under race he finished 15 places behind me. The Hi Guy type in his Vette with trophy blonde sneering at my Datsun and buddies Civic who finished 40 spots behind us at autocross............so be happy for all the poeple and thier preconceived notions......one of my in laws who is gay won a state championship for 400 meters.

First, as any good Miata owner would, I scoffed at the notion. Now I'm wondering, does the analogy work? Discussion format: Reasons why it does, Reasons why it doesn't. Conclusion. Example: Reasons why it does: -Right or wrong, Miatas (purses) are associated with women. Men who have Miatas (man purses) feel the need to justify having a Miata (man purse) despite the association, and go out of their way to justify possessing a Miata (purse). Reasons why it doesn't: Purses aren't fun. Conclusion: No

Rutledge is a hipster who loves wagons. Pretty sure his opinions are invalid.

Swank Force One.....ACK.......perils of the Internet......not meaning to be serious or vehement at all. Myself along with friends have vicious senses of humor. I am repeatedly reminded by a friend that my worst motorcycle crash ever (over the bars at 85 due to tank slapper) was on a straight away........so the forks chatter, I'm no girly man just keep the throttle pinned.......cue crash. This happened 27 years ago and just last month we were laughing about it.......Tom where did you crash? Mumbled reply "um ah straight-way" We / I believe all smack talk shall be greeted with swift and unyielding retribution........we're a friendly caring bunch........so if you call one of our cars a man purse, you better finish ahead of it. At the end of the show the Foust Miata hip checked Rutledge's WRX........and so the retribution was handed out.

Now on a serious note; TopGearUSA doesn't have the budget of the actual Top Gear nor the chemistry. I seldom watch but was channel surfing and the Miata caught my attention.

Wow, must have inadvertently hit a nerve. I just thought it was kind of funny in a "that's ridiculous, but there might be a grain of truth in there" way. I know the stereotype is still alive and well, because a friend of mine recently picked up a very nice 1995 M. He proudly posted it on his book of face page and promptly got so much crap from the coal rollin', monster energy, remember Dale Sr. crowd that he eventually pulled the picture rather than continue to argue with idiots.

But that said, a 1995 M is purple, after all . . .

Still all the unwarranted hate for TGUS. It's a fun show. Why hate on a car-based fun show? Geesh people. Maybe you've been spending too much time in your hairdresser's car and lost testosterone.

The car I'm hoping to start building next month for my wife was going to be purple, with pink flowers. What are you trying to say hrm???

That said, I'll still drive it, even though she's leaning towards more of a garnet/gold or a blue/yellow color scheme.

All in all....

I'd totally wrap my e36 in a Rainbow Dash livery.....but even though its physically the same size, its less ghey due to the fixed roof, bavarian-ness, and the simple fact it isn't a miata.

I'd rather say miata owners have suicide wishes, perhaps moreso than motorcyclists....

You lucky dog. Male cheerleaders are the world's greatest heterosexuals, and I envy them. Every time I see them on the sidelines with beautiful young women literally sitting in the palms of their hands, I think, "Greatest...job...ever."

Also, research by top psychologists has shown that 100% of men who ridicule Miatas as "gay cars" are closeted homosexuals who wear women's underwear and while away their evenings surfing ghey p0rn. Every last one. Look it up.

Miatas make you gay.

Luckily all you have to do is buy a harley, then you'll be ultra alpha hetero again!

Edit: Miatas don't make you any more gay than a muscle car, brodozer or harley makes you ultra mega manly man. I. E., not at all, just in case my humor doesn't translate properly in text.

Good point. Is there anything gayer than a stuffed shirt who gets all leathered up and putts around on a late-model, yet obsolete, overly-loud motorcycle so that he can feel manly and free?

Ya gotta do something less trendy than buying a Harley. It's not 1968 anymore.

I just noticed that. I don't have TV so I haven't watched it (or the UK version) in a couple of years. Last night I found out it was available for streaming, so I watched the two most recent episodes. I enjoyed them. The interaction between the three of them has improved. I still think their "titles" are a bit cheasy, but whatever.

Regardless, the format change is good for the US version. It likely reduces the production budget considerably, they were never going to be able to reviews cars in the same way the UK version does, and US tv already has dozens of shows doing celebrity interviews. I'm sure it also allows the hosts to use a more "loosely written" script and intereact more spontaneously, much the same way the UK hosts do.

As far as the "murse" comment... I winced and chuckled... but I drive a minivan, so portraying macho-ness is not high on my prioties.

Oh wow this thread is still going; I just from from riding my pink Vespa down to the blue oyster bar for roller blade night, quite a great selection of George Michaels tunes, the wife bought some new ruby red LED glow wheels anyway I'm gonna go finish my quiche and then I promised her I'd wax her Mary-K pink Z3, if I do a really good job she lets me pull it to the garage.....can't wait.

On a side note if I didn't have BBC I'd likely watch the USA version, they do a fine job but I prefer the original.

Ooooo gotta go I hear the wife coming.........

Sadly this logic seems flawed.
