I'm trying to get my 90 miata running again on the stock computer etc. I had tried to megasquirt it for a turbo setup, but it didn't go well so I'm hoping to go back to stockish. I've reattached the ecu, put in the afm and now the car barely runs. It will start and then die within a few seconds. It sounds like its backfiring through the afm. The only way it will stay running is if I have someone hold the afm open when I start it. Any ideas? Also, what colour are the stock injectors on a 90 miata? Mine are blue, I think the stock one are back in there, but I'm not sure.

Stock 90 injectors are either blue or tan, I forget. I think they're blue.
Are you sure all the air going in to the engine is going through the AFM?
Mike did you do anything else to the engine like a timing belt as well?,usually backfires thru the intake impy a valve timing issue.

I didn't touch the timing belt. There may be air coming through the idle air control valve. I'll check.

Could a tps be causing these symptoms? I switched to a variable one for the megasquirt and lost my stock one. Hmm

Maybe, but it's easy to duplicate the TPS signal on a 1.6 Miata. It's got one switch that's closed at idle and another that's closed at WOT. Nothing in between. Check your wire colors and just hook the two wires for the idle switch together to simulate the idle signal.
If you don't mind me enquiring, are you selling the megasquirt?
