Almost bought a clean one last year. It was the real common green blue color (which is the only color ive seen them in) and was broken, i got all pumped because it was cheap then i saw the huge clutch on the sc and assumed a pulley swap was not in the cards and gave up

I dd a 96 with 230k. It's not fast, but definitely feels better than 158hp. It doesn't ever make me want for power when driving it. If I wanted more power and had time to work on it I would start here:

SC Goodness

Stock SC pulley is 113mm while a 02-04 Corolla AC pulley that supposedly fits is 93mm. The computer will probably still fight you, but the boost should be there if you can get the computer to let you have it.

And if you can't get the computer to let you have more boost, it's a relatively simple EFI setup, so you can just 'squirt it.

I always lose faith when a misspelling in a story kills it for me.

It is NOT a "Roots" supercharger - it's "ROOTES"

Actually, it is spelled as a Roots supercharger, because it is named after American inventors and brothers Philander and Francis Marion Roots, founders of the Roots Blower Company of Connersville, Indiana USA, who patented the basic design in 1860 as an air pump for use in blast furnaces and other industrial applications.

The Commer and Karrier vehicles built by the Rootes Group did have a supercharged 2-stroke diesel engine, but it was still a Roots-style.

My mom had one when I was in HS. Hers wasn't an SC though. I flogged the E36 M3 out of that van on the windy and hilly backroads of Delaware. Rear suspension would constantly hit the bumpstops, but it handled and stopped pretty well.

Well how much of the prévia is related to the Toyota hiace? I ask because the hiace came with the 1uzfe in Japan when sold as an ambulance. A mid engine v8 previa sounds awesome. Just hack up the back end. Who needs that third row?

My parents almost bought a Previa back in the day.

Here is one for you to ponder,

All wheel drive,

Mid engine,

Inline six

Huge turbo

Why do we never talk about John Deere combines?

a quick google shows the Hiace looking much bigger then the previa and easier for the v8 to fit. but if you put a 1uz into a previa by taking the front seats out for room and moving the pedals and steering to work from the middle row of seats im not going to stop you

As with all US-market not-the-cheapest-model Japanese offerings of that era, they came in your choice of metallic burgundy, metallic gold/beige, and metallic light blue.

I almost bought one of these once. I actually really liked it during the test drive: decent power, great visibility, tons of room.

I see a TON of them around N. California for some reason.
