A while back I picked up an amazing condition Millermatic that came with a nice sized tank. Awesome, right? Wrong, at the time I wasn't aware that most companies won't fill any other companies bottles, and even if they did they needed paper work to prove you purchased it. I contacted the seller, and checked with the PO-lice to make sure it wasn't stolen (it wasn't), but now I have no paperwork and a 50lb boat anchor.

So now I have a huge bottle, and no one from welding suppliers wants to fill it for me. I read online that you can get them filled straight C02 from beer suppliers and they will usually "just do it." As they say. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any ideas on what I should do? I really don't want to purchase another huge tank or lease.

Everyone I've asked has said, "we only exchange OUR cylinders..."

I've found that if it's under 80 cu/ft than they will no problem, but my cylinder is more like 250 cu/ft. No one seems to want to touch it with a ten foot pole.

That's looking like my best option so far. Sucks, but what can you do.

Same problem here so i brought it to work and mixed it in with are emptys going back. The one they brought back had no label cast in the top therefore not rent is due. Anyone will fill no label tanks.

Find the dirtiest welding shop you can, ask them. I'm sure they've got a system.

the way my gas supplier works is the guys on the dock take your tank, and go get you a full one. but they wont touch the tank until its on the dock. then you walk inside and pay for it. the inside guys are the PITA. but what they dont know wont hurt them. then you have to load it yourself. make sure you have the cap on it! they lose their E36 M3 about that!

they dont really care if its stolen or not. They care about the integrity of the tank. if they dont know the history, they wont touch it. they have to be inspected/tested every so many years (5 i think)

i agree to approach a welding shop, they use the big tanks. they probably would trade you for something smaller like a Q (3-4ft) anything bigger is just a pita for home use.
