Just posted in another thread. Even though I love my Evo I still think nothing of value would be lost. What other fun cars have they released in the US in the past decade?
In reply to OutOfFocus:
as a single car on their own, none, but $100k spec Mirage field that's 10 entries deep with 9 friends would be far more fun then a Nissan GTR ever could be.
This is why I never felt comfortable buying an Evo. I knew at some point they'd be pulling out of the US market...

But they're not pulling out of the U.S. Market, they're just closing the Normal, IL plant.
We have always watched the worlds oldest auto manufacturer struggle to make ends meet. It'll always be strong in Japan. It'll be strong else where, but only in performance cars. They need to extract the cranium from the rectum and actually go full Monty with sports only cars. Make a four door AWD. A rear drive coupe, and a slew of AWD trucks, SUVs, wagons, and ALL of them with the same motor and same chassis. Build the company back. Build one cool, bullet proof turbo motor and a stout AWD system, and then under cut Subaru. That's all that needs done. Especially undercutting Subaru. Take it from someone that lives in ski country, Subaru OWNS the market. And no one can compete, a base Impreza is what? 19k? Find another "competent" "reliable" AWD car for that price. And don't even say "Suzuki" they can build a sport bike, but an AWD car.... Dodge Charger AWD? What a joke. It has more electrical gremlins than Lucas wiring... Nissan? Yuck. And front wheel drive.
Mitsabeechee has the tooling to make greatness and none of the leadership. I nominate diamond star motors as the "Nintendo" of the automotive world.
Mitsubishi=proving Japanese infallible reliability is a myth.
The deathwatch continues. I predicted an eventual full departure several years ago. This is just another step to following Suzuki and Isuzu.
I don't quite understand why Mitsubishi wouldn't merge with Mazda. Both are shrinking and need a little of what the other has. Mitsubishi had Fuso trucks and suv experience and Mazda needs a larger suv just like Porsche needs the Cayenne to bring in cash. Mitsubishi needs the Mazda 6 chassis for their Galant. And both could benefit from an Evo/Mazdaspeed3 alliance. Mazda definitely eventually needs some of Mitsubishi electric car knowledge. Just seems right but oh well.
