Here's one that is terrible to the point of being an artistic statement.
"roof mount" you say...
This car is literally sitting on the side of the road with the hood up and a cloud of steam billowing from it. The ad states that it has been overheated.
Best time to post an ad on CL? While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, of course.

I've done it at the scene of an accident.
A long time ago a friend who had a 3.1L Corsica left my parents' house (i was 16 or 17) and promptly flipped her car at the end of my road. When her parents showed up i offered them $100 for the car because the 3.1L was a sweet upgrade for the 2.8L in my 1987 Cadillac Cimarron (want another so bad!!). I dont think they knew what to think in that odd moment. They called me back a day or two later and said i could have it for the cost of the impound fees (which was ~$280). I declined. 
OK, so he's only got half of the Del Sol in the frame...

Found this one on Daily Turismo. I've seen photos censor the license plate. This one has censored something else, which the owner would like for you to know is not a bong.
Full ad here, but whatever is not a bong will not be visible in any of the other pictures, either.

Once in high school math class a friend was talking about using a beer bong he had made. (If youre not familiar with the term it is a funnel with a hose used to drink the liquid of your choice very quickly) Mid discussion he realizes the teacher is listening and he blurts out "Im not talking about a beer bong, it was just a water bong." All i could say was " I dont think youre making things any better Dustin."
Because when you wanna sell a car, sell yourself?
That last one is advertising genius. Almost every guy will click the ad to see a bigger picture. Admit it, you did!
Gonna have to do this on EVERY craigslist ad i post and see how it works.
