Potentially Q3 realease date...
Some of the other forums I visit are already abuzz with reasons they wont buy it and its destined to fail before its released.
Personally I think its a good idea and we will see if the diesel demand is really there.
Watching with interest.
My sprinter van with the I5 MB Diesel was great, I often wondered why the never tried to put one in a Ram or Dakota.
VM doesn't have the best reputation, but I'm really intrigued by this. I hope it sells like hotcakes.

I drove it, its awesome
it also has ZF 8 speed.
EDIT: wait for 2015 model year, hopefully it will be sold in the states.

Source? Of the few I have seen, it is always the manufacturer hardware that fails that leads to everyone bashing how bad VM are really.
As for pricing, I wish it would be V6 gasser cheap in a 2wd reg cab SB for 16k, but reality points to maybe 20-22k and a 4wd being another 2k on top of that. Still COULD end up cheaper then a Cruze, since the dieselheads will buy whatever is diesel and a truck on top of that equals over the top.... Plus the multilink rear suspension in the Ram ain't half bad....
This will be interesting. I know a ton of people that have been anxiously awaiting a small diesel in a half-ton since at least the late 90s. They will finally get a chance to put their money where their mouths are.
Cool! A quad cab might just be the Tahoe replacement I've been waiting for... more utility than the GC but can haul the baby AND the racecar :)

You might want to look at the current Ram website and pricing. I doubt you'll get out of a dealer with a V6D 4x4 for under $30K. $35K seems more likely.
The lack of a quad-cab, 8' bed option and the meager 1500 lb payload kills the idea for me. Oh well... it was a nice thought for a few minutes...
A 2013 Tradesman V6, standard cab, short box is $23,395. There isn't any Ram cheaper, so I have no idea where "$16K" came from. The 4x4 version is $26,395. And to Ian, the Crew Cab 8' box combo is only on the 3/4 ton and higher chassis. It wouldn't make any sense to put it on the small 1/2 ton chassis anyway, diesel or no.
They missed the boat IMO, should have happened a long time ago. Will I look at buying one though? Absolutely.
But diesel is now typically more expensive than gas across North America, and with direct injection, the mpg savings incentive may be gone. It'll be interesting to see what kind of MPG it knocks out, presumably it will get similiar to a diesel cherokee. If that is the case, I could probably daily drive it with that mpg.
I tow over 20,000kms per year, but only 7000lbs. That is through the mountains though/across Canada, so more torque would be nice.
I'll believe a 1/2-ton diesel pickup in the US when I see them on the lots. I've been hearing rumors about one from both Ford and GM for at least 3 years, and nothing has ever materialized.
I know if Ford ever puts a baby powerstroke in an F150, my father will buy one in a heartbeat.

You might be surprised.
The last truck I bought, MSRP was $34k........I paid $26,500 for a truck with 8 miles on it.

Why??? The Ford only holds 200# in the same configuration (2wd reg cab SB), 1800# vs 1600#. As to the configuration, you should be in a 3/4 ton anyways. Most people who claim to need the for either 2k+ worth of payload, an 8' bed and 4x4, never need it outside of a few times over the life of the vehicle.
As for price, shoot me on actual numbers, same principle applies. I believe you will be able to get the 4x4 model for under 30k too...
Dear Chrysler/Fiat/Dodge/Ram/Jeep/AMC etc...
Please put this motor in something smaller, like the size of the 1997-2003 Dakota or the extra tasty Jeep Gladiator concept, and I will show up to the dealership with BOTH my 1997 Dakota and my Mazda 3 for trade. I don't have a need for a honkin' sized pickup that I need to get a running and jumping start just to get into every morning.
Sincerely,
Silverfleet

I have a VM diesel in a Jeep liberty.... the rep isn't VM's fault, almost all the problems can be traced back to Chrysler penny pinchers or the guv'ment. No lift pump from the factory, wiring ran in poor paths that rub through, absolutely retarded mandated EGR on a diesel, etc.
