A little more progress:
The radiator mount is about 75% done. I'm waiting for the electric fan to come in, then I can finish the radiator mount and also mount the engine oil cooler.
Since due to lack of a fan I couldn't go any further with the radiator mount, I figured it was time to build the header for the exhaust. A good friend of mine came over and helped me with it all day yesterday, couldn't have done it without him!
I used a Racing Beat mild steel U build it kit, the collector dumps into a single 3" pipe.
3" is huge for a NA rotary! Does it just merge straight into a 3" or flare megaphone style?
The two 2" x .120 wall (call them 1.750 ID) tubes merge straight into a 3" pipe. I went big because in order to keep this thing reasonably quiet for autocross venues I will probably have to run some sort of turbo muffler. (Well, at least until the snail shaped presilencer makes its debut. ) So theoretically a 3" ID turbo muffler should be less restrictive than a 2.5 inch. I am running a 2.5" turbo muffler on the 12A in the Abomination and yes there is a noticeable power drop over about 6K RPM.

Now that's a "turbo muffler."
that needs more peripheral port
August 9, 2009: it lives. It sounds NASTY MEAN. Still a little 'breadboarded', have a few quirks to iron out but it RUNS! Pics and possibly video to follow soon.
We are on the same path... I just made a bracket for the E30 radiator, fan and oil cooler... the header will wait until I acquire some sort of skill in that dept. That looks pretty damn fine.
Did you MIG or TIG weld the pipes on that header?
Did them with my lil' ol' Lincoln flux core wire feed welder. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out.

That's the way I do my exhaust systems. Once you get the settings dialed in you're good to go.
This project looks pretty good so far.
