Seek and ye shall find stuff you didn't want to...

I was putting back the coolant overflow tank into my '95 Miata and while doing so, had to move the charcoal canister. That resulted in one of those "hmm, that hose looks like it's not connected to anything" moments. Some more prodding dug up the following:

The open end with the broken connector (top arrow) is appears to be the connected to the bottom of the charcoal canister via a piece of metal piping (bottom arrow). So far so good, but can anybody tell me where the broken off end of the connector is actually supposed to connect to so I can get some unbroken parts and hook the thing up again?

I did consult my Haynes BoL but while that explains how to remove the canister, it doesn't seem to show the hose routing.

Closeup-ish of the broken connector:

From looking at the diagram in the parts book, I can't tell which part is broken on yours - is it the connection at the bottom of the charcoal canister (there should be a nipple on the bottom of the canister), or at the end of that hose?

The hose that comes off the bottom of the canister connects to a metal pipe, which turns 90 degrees (from horizontal to down) then goes to a soft hose that (from my interpretation of the diagram), goes rearward and angles down a bit. This soft hose ends in another connector - but it does not say where this goes.

The connector at the end of the soft hose (which I have no idea where it goes) is simply labeled "connector" and is Mazda part number JE16-13-298.

My suspicion is also that it would connect to the gas tank somehow.

I clipped mine into a hole in the subframe to vent the fumes? I removed the charcoal canister and looped the lines and that looked like the most likely place for it to go.

And that's exactly the connector I'm looking at... I had a look at the microfiche and seemed to get roughly as far as you seem to have done, too.

Just to wrap this up, as someone on Miata.net pointed out, the hose most likely clips into a frame rail. All I need now is the replacement clip and I should be golden.

Some people pointed out that I should just leave the hose dangling but I don't like having loose hoses hanging around an engine bay like that.

It will still clip in with a broken clip, it will just be loose. At least mine did, it might have fallen out by now though.

Well, that one has fallen out already by the looks of it...

It's five bucks for a new clip so I'm not going to cheap out on that one.
