The just got made legal in the nick of time new 200 TW Yokohama Advans are lasting around 30 AX runs before being completely corded. That's worse wear than an R-compound Hoosier A7 for a supposed street tire. Looks like someone is going to the banned list next season...
From a DS Focus RS. Exactly 30 runs. No shaving, no street miles:
I wish I had that kind of fu money. Let me rephrase that... I wish the wife would let me have that kind of fu money. Like the old Corvette SS nationals where every run is a new set of tires.....

This happened with the original rivals when they were not heat cycled first.

The one picture looks like a carcass failure more than cording. Looks like the inside half of the tire still has a significant amount of rubber on the outside and that the outer carcass peeled away from the inner layers on the outside edge. However I am not a tire engineer, nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
I drove on them this week and they absolutely are molded with thin shoulders.
Like any 200TW they need camber to get the most life.
But YMMV because there's certain cars and driving stiles that will grind any tire into dust.
In big sizes they're eye watering expensive. But in normal ST sizes they're pretty palatable.
I was not a fan before this week.
Also, they HAVE to be kept cold.
We were swapping fronts on the STH Audi TT between drivers. Meaning we had 2 pairs of front tires.

Also, isn't things at the course rather like a cheese grater anyway?

The Focus is camber limited in the front since it isn't adjustable without changing the upper strut mounts, so this is a combination of issues.
EDIT: I just noticed this was already swapped to the rear.
I have 28 (50ish second) runs on mine so far and about 200 highway miles and they show little to no wear. This included a solo school (8 + 8 back to back runs), and 2 regional events(placed 2nd and 5th in CAM-C with top 20 PAX in both). I have almost no visible wear other than dimpling along the outer edges from pushing on crummy pavement. All this was in 90 degree heat. I'm calling B.S.
I still have 4 events this year and see no reason why they won't get me through this season and well into next.

At a Lemons race in August I saw some worn through the cords on an 1900lb car in a half day. It was so bad the inner carcas was ballooning out.

I'm confused. We're they actually made incorrectly? Or are you just doing a play on words?
We found out about the rivals through our own testing. Heat cycling them solved the issue and they wore very well after that point.
I always get my tires (even street type tires) heat cycled now.

Were you out at Springfield last weekend? I'm fairly certain I keyed your car into the queue during the first heat.
Edit: I didn't take a car key to your paint job just to be clear.
Yeah, that isn’t “worn to the cords.” That tire either got too hot and blistered the tread leading to chunking, or the tread in the shoulder delaminated from the overlay. The overlay cords still having their coating of rubber is the main clue, along with the tread “peeling” towards the centerline of the tire.

Either way, that tire doesn't look worn out as much as it looks like the tread got ripped off of the carcass.

Sounds like the Maxxis tires we bought to run in Chump. -1.5 Camber and zeroed out toe and 7 hours into a race the insides were worn to the cords vs. the Hankook RS3s we threw back on there that had over 30 hours of Chump time on them with plenty of tread left.
I'm waiting to see how this plays out.
Update from peeps at Nationals - the delamination issue seems to be concentrated in camber-challenged cars/classes (Street) and the cars with plenty of camber (Street Touring) are wearing quite well.
One person from Time Trials did say that they did the same thing and ballooned the inside of the tires on track.
So preliminary data says if your car is hard on tires, don't run the A042's, but if your car is sufficiently cambered and easy on tires they should be good.

Indeed I was. What were you driving? I worked grid second heat with the sombrero, haha.

Aha! That makes sense. I was in the white FRS. Do you ever plan to run out at the Neosho site?

In reply to captainawesome :
I'll try to make it down to Neosho next season(looks like no more events there this year). I likely won't go back to Springfield, that surface was garbage. I have events the next two weekends in KC. I live in Butler so it's about equal distance either way.
In reply to Patientzero :
There's a couple other clubs that run the Neosho spot if you are looking for more seat time. There's Vette club double header on the 14th and 15th. Z club will be running the 22nd. Vette club has another double header the 5th and 6th of October as well.
Agreed on Springfield. Not as good as I hoped, and not worth the 2 hour drive for me. I'll probably consider going 1 more time out there, but it's not a high priority.

The 5th/6th event may be doable, link?
To back up my previous post, here are pictures of mine after 28 runs. 295/35-18, 10.5" wheel, 3150lb car.
These are the 6/32nds version so just over 1/32nds wear. 28 runs, 200ish highway miles, 90 degree weather.

A bit like the rubber layers didn't bond together properly during the manufacturing process.
Time to exercise one of my skills: uninformed speculation.
Step one, lead off with a fact.
Yokohama would have needed new molds to build the tires with the new increased tread depth.
Step 2, guess at the answer.
Perhaps a problem developed with the manufacturing process when they made the transition to the new molds.
