That all by itself wouldn't do it for me. A Camry for example just doesn't satisfy. But the Miata handles great, sips gas, is perky, a/c and a flop-top, etc etc etc. Sure there are cars that can out handle it, or out accelerate it, are more comfortable, whatever. But as a whole complete package, the Miata is remarkable for a sports car person like myself.

I was referring to the convencince of a Miata only. I loved my old TR3, but the work:drive ratio was about 2:1.

I own three 4 cylinder cars. They are all fun in their own ways, but in my mind I am going to go with an Exige.

Getting your car stolen isn't much fun.

In mostly stock form?

I had the opportunity to service a Tempest convertible with that engine. It had all of the power and refinement that you could expect from an auto industry that didn't give E36 M3 #1 about economy cars, because if they wanted refinement or power they could just buy a more expensive car.

You got the shaking forces of the largest modern-era 4-cylinder ever made (larger than the 968, even) without the benefit of balance shafts, or compression, or cam, or a carburetor with more than one barrel.

Plus they basically stuck it in the front of a Corvair. Okay, rear transaxle was neat in theory, but then you get swing axle rear suspension to go with it.

With the caveat 'street car' I would say a bone stock 08 Evo MR.

One of these things is not like the other.

Disclaimer: I have never driven a Stradale, an RS200, or an actual E30 M3 (but I have driven lots of E30s and Z3s)
