I don't know whether to exiting cause it will be awesome to watch, or crying for the poor cars, or crying cause it seems so anti-privateer.

I lol'ed at "it's like a video game . . . in real life!"
Haven't they been doing something like this in the X-Games? Am I remembering something incorrectly? (I really have no idea)
They did last year, alot of the footage in that trailer was from previous xgames where is was basically a super special stage rather than European Rallycross style heats.
....Am I the only one thinking this is the old style Arena truck/buggy racing coming back in force, with a slight twist?
And I am GLAD for it?!

I used to LOVE watching that stuff. There was one track where they ran UP through the stands and out of the stadium, then ran back down. They ran trucks, quads, buggies, mini buggies, and even 3-wheelers for a while.
I think this came to America from Europe. They had a few rounds at NJMP. Some of the big names showed up too. I hope it sticks here, it looks pretty badass. You might be able to find more videos by searching "Rallycross at NJMP" or something on YouTube. The X-Games version this year was cool but they focus way too much on the big jump and the drivers were getting confused b/c of the intricate course layout.

When people, ask why rally isn't popular in the U.S., I say it will be when they can put it in a stadium, and charge $30 a seat to watch it.
For those who truly love rally, you'd better hope this doesn't do to rally what supercross did to motocross.

Ah back in the late 80s. The Mickey Thompson Off Road Circuit. When ESPN wasn't Sports Center 24/7.
http://rally-america.com/ These guys are a big part of it. They have Rallycar (stage rally) and Rallycross (supercross for bikes). On their website they show Gronholm is going to be competing in the Global Series. That is good, he always gives good interviews and goes like hell.
They are the sanctioning body that brought rally to x-games. This looks like a natural evolution. Wish I had the coin, because it really does look like a real life video game.
I think it's a great way to expose kids to motorsports that also turn right.... and gives up more than the t00ner garbage that a lot of people think we all want.

The Coliseum in LA. Great racing.

Yup..
Love rallycross. But that jump was stupid.
I was doing rally before hats had flat bills.
I like it!
I wish they would bring back the indoor stadium stuff too. Before spike tv, TNN had a show on Friday nights that had different motorsports on. That was the heat.

I remember that, and it was also my regular fix of Monster Jam. Loved it.

Off Topic: Who has approximately 28 thumbs and is the the official magazine of Rallycar / Rally America?
Us guys.
Back on topic: I'm a little split on European-style Rallycross. It's been a crazy engineering exercise for a long time, so it's never really been a poor man's sport IMHO. Check out this video from 1983- not an inexpensive way to go racing then, either. YouTube RallyCross video
Assuming the car preparation would cost the same, I think a Rallycross team wouldn't necessarily be more expensive to run for a whole season than a stage Rally program. (Hopefully the crazy super jump is only in place at X-games or a series championship.)
Good for the sport? Probably, but also sure to cause some tension among "old school" Rally fans.
