Maybe search on the 2-stroke forums. There are a fair amount of niche gray market at best '90's bikes registered in the states; not sure of legality, but I remember california registrations being worth about a $2k premium.

I'm fully aware of the grey market bikes, I'm just wondering what the "proper" legal way to import one is. As long as the VIN has the correct amount of digits, getting a title is simple. It's the smog side/getting pulled over that has me perplexed.
The US Customs website simply says 'vehicles' older than 25 years old can be imported, as does the NHTSA website, so the rules should also apply to motorcycles since they are legally a vehicle.
