As some of you may know I recently purchased a mr2 spyder with a 2zz and a 6-Speed (same power train as a lotus elise).  Car weighs 2150 lbs and makes roughly 180 whp.

Car is lowered on a set of k sport coilovers.  It has a set of 15x8 kosei k1 wheels.  Currently has four 205/50 r15  nitto neo gen tires on it.

I plan to use it for track days and autocross.  I have owned two mr2 spyders in the past.  Both had factory sized staggered rubber.

I have a track day at roebling road in December.  I need tires.

Question for the hive is what size?  205 square setup, 225 square setup, 205/225 stagger, 225/245 stagger?  I was thinking of getting re71's, rival 1.5's or RS4's.  A square setup allows for rotation, a stagger possibility has better steering feel.

Has anyone had experience with an mr2 spyder tire setup.  Thoughts?

Thanks.

Nice car. This spring I was torn between a Spyder and an NC Miata. I went with the Miata because of the aftermarket and the info that is out there. But someone here will have answers for you

Oooo-eee! 2zz in a Spyder! Sweet!

I'd try to go square, but I haven't owned one of those, and have never owned a mid-engined car, so I'll just keep admiring the car and let someone with first-hand experience answer.

Enjoy!

In reply to Carbon (Forum Supporter) :

How is the steering feel compared to the staggered set up?  What size wheels are you running them on?  Any downsides that are worth mentioning.

Thanks

I'm running 225 square rivals on 15x9s. I think the setup works well. Car is setup for autocross and trackdays.
