Well why would you want an auto anyway?

If it's in the rear of the Saab pickup. The front wheels are already driven by one manual transmission, I'm not sure I could do two shifters and two clutches. But maybe I just need more skills.

I guess I could always get the manual in the back and swap in an auto for the front...

If you're going twin engine, I'd think you want autos at both ends.  Bonus points if they're hooked to engines with similar enough powerbands and can be controlled to shift at the same time.

Why? I feel like it would be easy enough to just hook two throttle cables to a single gas pedal, and let the auto do its thing while you shift one end. And is it bad that I kinda don't care if they shift at the same time or not? Also, you definitely wouldn't fire up both engines for daily driving, this would be like an auxiliary motor to fire up for the challenge. (for just putting around i'd actually just leave the front wheels in neutral with engine off and drive the auto)...

It's a lofty goal I know but I can assure you it won't be happening by me in the near future at least, so it is also all conjecture. and thread jack. oh well.

In reply to Robbie :

I'd think keeping the transmissions synchronized would be better from a handling / stability perspective if you're planning to use the second engine for anything other than drag racing.

Makes sense. And it probably would matter out on a high speed track. but for autox or rallyx i'd just lock the auto into 2nd and let er rip. Drag racing of course just let it shift like you say.

Also, my challenge cars tend to have much bigger "handling / stability" issues anyway devil yeah, I know I should work on that first...

Anson's Durocco of challenge fame simply routed linkages and throttle cables to the same places.  When asked about synchronization he just giggled in response.
