while trolling E-bay for parts for our BABE/LeMons/Challenge 1993 Mustang 2.3, I found a set of springs for a 2004 Mach 1. the post says that the springs will fit "any mustang from 1979-2004 except IRS Cobras". there was another listing for shocks that states the same. both were posted by a mustang dismantler in Georgia...I have actually been to this place, and all they have is mustangs.

I know that they are the same "basic chassis", but is this true? Can I really put Mach 1 springs on my 93 fox convertible?

I am about 85% sure you can, I have a set of BBK springs that were on my 97 cobra (that one fatigued and the set was replaced with H&R) I can measure next weekend if you need.

Apex, how badly fatigued were the BBK's? We may be lookin for a set of used springs...

79-04 were practically identical underneath.

accident fatigued

the drivers front sat an inch or so lower then the pass front, so they are probly worthless for you.

rears are fine though.

Dont know what the rates were, but not anything really useful for racing.

my advice is if you can find them get something 750lb-in or more for the front H&R race, H&R super race, Steeda competition springs, eibach racekit, ford motorsport R,... the mustang needs alot of spring to counteract the camber loss from the geometry and body roll (add a big sway too, im running 35mm front with H&R race on my cobra)

While H&R, Eibach, Steeda, or Ford motorsport would be great...they = $...LeMons is kinda a budget race....we epitomize that budget.

I found a set of 1996 cobra front and rears that I bid on...hopefully they will be mine in about 3 days.

I realize that, but just wanted to let you know the general direction that will help.

I acknowledge that, and thank you very much for the info, and the link... if the car makes it through LeMons alive, I may take advantage of it in the future, and it definitely points me in the right direction.

If you had to recommend a sway bar on the cheap (dumpster diving), what is best? Cobra, Bullitt/Mach, GT? Personally I like a little oversteer, however I will be driving with some Noobs, and predictability is probably best, so should I shoot for a stiffer rear bar for some understeer?

Stiffer rear bar will promote oversteer or reduce understeer.

I dont think an SN95 bar will fit a fox, but i may be wrong (besides, you could likely fabricate a bracket to make something work)

the principle behind putting a big front bar on is that as the car leans you loose camber. IE, you make the suspension work better by letting it work less. sounds backwards, but it works.

okay, you have all been so helpful up to this point, if I may ask one more question, then I will disappear....for a while at least.

I have two sets 10 hole rims from a T-bird...15 X 6...what tire would you recommend? keep in mind, this is a 17 hour race, so longevity is important, but I still want a competitive tire. we will have 2 sets for the race.

we also have the 14 x 5 "polymold" rims that came stock on the car. we might use these for some used tires to drive BABE on, and as double secret backups for LeMons
