He mentioned today that we needed to build a hovercraft...
Hmmm...
The hardest parts would be the skirt and the prop and they are fairly inexpensive...
Hmmm...
@#$%&#@!!!
I don't need another project.

Or do I...
Yep, just like your avatar says...
All you need are a couple of leaf blowers and a piece of plywood big enough for the pilot and said blowers.
Bring it to the challenge.
In reply to DrBoost:
Yep. The only difference is, my eldest it almost 30. He wants to build one that will seat 4 people. That's going to take a awfully big leaf blower.
I'm hoping I can just be technical assistance on this one.
In reply to Trackmouse:
You know, that would make a pretty interesting Challenge class for next year. Under $2K, carry 2 people, able to run the drag race and the autocross. Autocrossing a hovercraft has to be fun.
The differences in engineering alone would be a hoot to see.
Get the powers that be onboard and I'll damn sure build one.
Does anyone remember that old show "junkyard wars"?? It was
Awesome and it the reason I tinker Today. They Had to build hovercraft From junkyard scrap. One was turbine powered!
Also, I think autocross navigation would be an exercise in futility For those OCD. The ones that don't care as much would have a blast.

I believe that at one point in another video, Clarkson mentions that " if you can see something on the horizon while driving a hovercraft, you are going to hit it"

Hmmm... There used to be one of these sitting in a yard a couple of miles from where I live...
In reply to NOHOME:
This is another of their attempts at hovercrafts.

I have only once been given the opportunity to try out one of these.(About 30 years ago) And even as drunk as I was at the time, it still did not look like a good idea.
That tells you something!
And with that, back to the studio...

Umm, no it wouldn't. The hardest part would be paying the hospital bill!
In reply to SVreX:
All the fun things in life seem to risk a hospital bill.

We did that in a science class in 9th grade.
It didn't work well to say the least.

Reverse the tank cooling fan from the sucker corvette that came to the challenge all those years ago....
You know, I just thought of something.
Sitting in a small obscure barn, about an hour away from me, I have a 500cc, twin cylinder, Kawasaki engine. 50 hp, water cooled, 8500 rpms.
Sitting in my garage, about 25' from me, is a 17 hp vertical shaft briggs.
Briggs, for lift. Kawasaki, for propulsion.
I could, I mean my son, could build a rather large, rather fast hovercraft with that set up.

How about combining a hovercraft with a skiff that has been combined with a jet-ski?
Or is that just weird?
